Hi i have same unit. If you keep the volume anywhere below 31 the fan is not intrusive (you can hear a quiet hum but not a bother) I also give it plent of ventilation ie 1 foot at back and a little less to the sides. The problem is the unit is so slim the fan has to work harder to dissipate the heat build up.

Hi, the cooling fan has started to get very noisy, any suggestions

Just to delay the inevitable... joy of REPLACEMENT you could remove it and give it a serious cleaning.

Use a TOOTH-PICK to put a TINY SPOT of good SYNTHETIC OIL on the bearing side of the main-shaft.

Get out the magnifying glass and WRITE DOWN the exact nomenclature of your old fan...

BECAUSE

The real cure is to purchase the replacement and install it. You will be happy-est if you get at least three cost estimates before you purchase.

These fans are NOT expensive... and there are some nasty sellers out there.

The volume gets noisy, cracking sounds and fades out

Your volume control is dirty. Apply some deoxit or wd40 directly onto the module.

I have a problem on fan can you solve? It's a noisy fan

Most of the problems with cooling fans in equipment is due to loss of lubrication. What anybody would do in this case is take out the cover of the receiver and replace the noisy fan, or, in case you are able to do so, repair the fan.
In fans with ball bearings, you can do nothing but disasembling the fan and replace the tiny BB, in fans with sleeves bearings, you may disassemble it, clean it well, and put some oil or light grease in it before reasembling it.

I got a noisy cooling fan in my TEAC agv 8500 receiver and I was wandering if anyone knows how many volts the fan is? I was thinking of putting a 12v one from a computer.

i would spray the fan with a light oil , like switch cleaner first. ( disconnect from power ) spray , then leave to dry, that should help, if not change fan with equivalent type,
pete

Fan quit working. Is it likely the board, or the fan? Currently have a Radio Shack fan mounted; it's 120v, plugged into the AUX power on the back of the unit. It's noisy, otherwise unit works and runs...

Hi, Have got and still use a Technics SA-GX910 Dolby Amp. It had an overheating problem too due to Air temp and power drain etc and the internal fan only engaged at certain volume level. Overheating was overcome by adding another internal fan.
Your unit however might need a bit more of a fix-me-up or throw it away

Onkyo TX-SR508 cooling fan

I don't know the psecific answer but wouldn't it be easier and safer to just locate the fan turn-on signal and cheat it? The fan is already on a 12v feed. I don't think you want to arbitrarly place an inherently noisy (electrically) device like a fan on a 12v buss in an audio device.
