Question about Garden

1 Answer

IH FARMALL C

When I start my tractor up it spits and spudders, and sometimes stalls, after running about 5 minutes it runs good. Last year I redid the head and it ran like new. I have new spark plugs and wires on it. I had the distributor cap checked and it was ok. I am leaning toward a carburetor problem. I need some more input before I go down that road.

Check the fuek lines for hole and leaks, check the fuel filter and clean if necessary. remove the carbuerator and inspect the gasket; it should be soft and flexible, if it seems hard or brittle replace it. clean the carb with carb cleaner sray (available at any local auto parts store) and compressed air. make sure you get inside the small fuel rail holes.

I have a Craftsman mower. Last year I had a similar problem with the mower stopping after running awhile. I noticed that the plastic gas tank was collapsing. The next time it began to stall, I immediately loosened the gas cap and it didn't stall. The vent holes in the cap had plugged up. Check this out.
I can't help you locate the fuel leak, although it sounds like the carburetor float is not stopping gas from flowing into the carburetor.

Farmall a tractor runs but makes a popping sound thru the intake pipe. The tractor hasn't been run for many years.

Possibly a timing issue. Check the timing first. Also check the compression to verify both are within spec

1942 farmall tractor stalls after 10 - 15 minutes of bushhogging.

Hello, W/D here.

It might have to do with your temp or it could be a fuel issue. I had a model "B" (1947) and it sometimes pulled a slight vacuum on the tank, starving it for fuel, and it took about that long. If you have the glass sediment bowel on yours, you should be able to see evidence of this if it is happening, or if you have a vent in your filler cap, it might be plugged. I don't know how a model H tank is vented, but I'm sure that you do.
As to it being temp related; it could be. You can remove and test your thermostat by immersing it in hot boiling water and seeing if it opens. It probably has it's temperature rating printed on the thermostat. If you believe that this is the issue, a lower opening thermostat can be installed to see if this corrects the problem
Good luck, and best regards, --W/D--

This sounds too easy of a solution but I had a like ptroblem with my Craftsman. I loosed the gas cap a bit and the rough running and stalling stopped. he vent on the gas cap that contains a turn over interrupt valve was plugged causing the gas not to flow. I took the cap apart and cleaned out the vent hole though cleaning the holewith a paper clip would have worked as well. Anyway..it fixed my problem. I think my dirty hands of deris deposited the matera in the vent hole when filling with gas.

Lawn Tractor won't start Craftsman LT1000 17.5 OHV

The starter bendix is not engaging properly the bendix pushes the starter gear into the flywheel gear when the starter spools up, it may need minor lubrication.
It sounds like the engine is not getting fuel as it should, the main jet may be restricted from varnish if she stumbles under a load especially if the plug tips are white after running for 1/2 an hour.
Remove the float bowl and clean the jet, make sure the fuel is still good, gas that smells like a library is more like varnish and less like fuel.
