White lines in negative scans

I have a Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 film scanner. I am getting white lines, running the long dimension of my 35mm negative scans. Never had this before. Turning scanner off & back on, shutting down PS CS2 & restarting, rebooting WinXP, unplugging & plugging-in USB cable (and combinations) all don't seem to help.

- Thanks for your response. I'm wondering if it isn't a fixed hardware problem because from scan to scan the lines aren't in the same places and the number of lines varies from one or two to more "lines" than good pixels.

could be the component scanner inside of the minolta , it will need to be tested to determine if the scanners components or a wire strip is causing the problem or the component scanner its self , it sounds like a section of it is out so it will not see anything ------ ---------- in that section
