From your description I would suspect a broken belt although I am unfamiliar with your model. Once the belt [which transfers drive from the motor to the drum] breaks, it would'nt matter how well the motor runs, it can't turn the drum.
Hope this helps!

Dryer drum moves about quarter turn/cycle then stops. please let me know the potential problem.

Your motor is probably going bad and it will run short time until overheated then after setting a little bit and cooling down it will run again for short time.

My dryer won't turn. The motor runs when you push start but the drum doesn't turn. I can turn it by hand and it will run.

- The most common reason for the dryer drum to stop spinning is if your drum belt has snapped or has been worn down completely. This is an easy fix and simply involves buying a replacement belt and feeding it through the pulleys and on the roller and then back around the middle of the drum.
- The rollers could have worm out causing the drum to spin in a bumpy and noisy manner , these are the little circle shaped objects your dryer actually sites and can usually be replaced depending on how old your dryer is. The pulleys could also be broken causing problems.
- The motor could have died after many years of use if the drum is not moving at all and if it is moving the motor bearing could be off causing to spin around very roughly and sometimes scratch against the sides of the dryer compartment.
- Noises coming from the dryer when its plugged in and spinning could also be due to a huge amount of dust built up around the dryer drum. Sometimes cleaning out the inside of your dryer and returning the drum to the correct position can fix this problem.

The dryer makes a new noise now when the drum is turning. It is a steady "tick -- tick -- tick -- tick --etc" which is laid over the normal sounds of the motor, the turning drum, and the...

You have done a good job of isolating the noise. Sounds like you will have to replace your drive motor. Very likely a mechanical problem in your motor, that is not going to fix itself. If you continue to run your dryer with the noise coming from your motor, you run the risk of the motor burning out electrically and causing a fire or a shock hazard. It is unlikely that this will happen, but it is possible and thereby not worth the risk of getting shocked or having a fire. The Whirlpool Duet Dryer is the best dryer built, so it is worth replacing the motor. Good luck, Appliance Specialists

The drum will not rotate

I did the same thing this morning... It was going to take a couple of days before repair technician was going to be able to repair it. So, I took the back cover off, and the idler pulley tensioner spring had fell off (that was the sound you heard... Then, I had to re-index the belt back to its groove on the drum. When I did that, I realized that the idler pulley had to be pulled all the way to the right and actually held the belt around the drive pulley. Hope that helps someone.

Whirlpool dryer WED5530SQ0, heats but does not run

So,. basically your drum doesnt turn. SO your getting heat still even though the drum isnt turning. Is this right? Sounds strange??? Do you hear any humming noise when you push the start button? I need to know a little more about the problem because im kinda confused as how you decribed the problem. Iv never seen a dryer heat but the drum not spinning. especially your model dryer. Its electric heat right? because if the drum doesnt spin, maybe your motor is bad. and if your motor is bad, then your heating element wont heat up because the centrifical switch in the motor is not switching to complete the circuit to the heating element. So this is why im confused when you said" Dryer heats when knob turned but when "push button" pressed, drum doesnt run." Because your belt wraps around the motor pully and the motor is what makes the drum turn. Like i said, i never seen this model dryer heat with out the motor operating. So if you can give me some more info, ill do my best to help you out....Thanks!!!!

Kenmore dryer stopped running

Hi, I can determine a motor bad by the noise. Does it hum while holding the start button or is it a grinding deep sound? It can sound like the motor starts slow but once it gets going, it is ok. Sometimes the house lights will dim when the motor statrs going bad.
Let me know if I can help you further.

Kenmore Dryer Mod.76990100...shreiking noise when drum turns??

hi,
Dryer Is Noisy
1) Some noises are caused by objects bouncing around inside the drum. Scour the interior of the drum for loose objects.

2) If you cannot find any loose objects inside the drum, the noise may be caused by a defective part, such as a worn or defective drum belt, idler pulley, support rollers, glides, or worn motor bearings. It’s best to call an appliance repair service to replace these parts.

Thanks for using FixYa

I had a similar problem and found a screw had backed out on one of the turning paddles inside the drum but the screw was on the under side , and could reach it through the access door , just had to turn the drum by hand till the screw was in sight.

just turn the drum inside by the paddles and shake them to make sure they are tight , thats how i found my problem and noise

good luck hope this helps , wayne t
