Color of Antifreeze/Coolant for 2002 Camry

My Camry was fine earlier today, but tonight it had no heat. I checked online and found that it might need antifreeze/coolant. Since the temperature was supposed to dip to -15 Celsius, I thought I should put some antifreeze in the car. It was 12:30am when I put the antifreeze in and I had no flashlight, I just know that it didn't take alot (about 1/4 of the 4 litre jug). I always thought there was only one color of antifreeze; however, after reading more I found that Toyotas take red or pink. I put in green Prestone. Will this cause a major problem????

If there was red antifreeze in there before, adding green product can cause sludging in the water jacket of the engine. They are not compatible. The right type for this engine is the red or orange type.

Have the system drained and flushed a few times, and refill with red type coolant mix.

Antifreeze

When you say your car struggled to start I would assume you are trying to start it early in the morning. In states where you are well below freezing not only do you need some sort of heating blanket or oil heater on the vehicle's engine but you need to let the vehicle defrost or un freeze before you go trying to start it and drive it. The coolant being low hardly has anything to do with the engine starting. If your engine struggles to start in the mornings after a below freezing night then again I would assume your oil is next to frozen and your trying to put a spark on a ice cold block. which is just asking for issues. If you do have a oil heater and your car is still presenting issues then the problem may be else were... As for your antifreeze dis appearing, If you do not have a coolant leak then one of two things is happening your either leaking coolant into your block, or you are burning the coolant somehow,

My 2002 camry stalls after running for 5 min. and...

My 97 CAmry was stalling at idle. Sometimes at stoplights or even when comming to a stop. Ran fine most of the time except at idle. It would shut off like i turned off the key. Found out the coolant sensor was shorting out intermitinly..Disconnect the sensor and sending unit if not sure which is which. The check enginr light will come on but that could be the stalling problem.

92 Toyota Camry, antifreeze leaking no leak found

have you had the undercarriage inspected for white stains from coolant, rust stains if your system is corroded? How many miles? has the water pump ever been replaced, that would be my guess, water pumps leak while the eng is running and the hot engine evaporates the coolant, so in many cases none on the ground. Also have the system pressure tested by a shop and put on a rack to check for signs of leaking under the car.

2002 Impala just bought toay running hot not quite

The cooling system may need to be serviced which is one of the things that is never done. The orange antifreeze has a life of 5 years and 150,000 miles and if it has never been flushed out, there may some crystal formation causing a restricted flow of antifreeze through the system. Try flushing out the cooling system with Preston radiator flush, use the dry power flush rather then the one from the bottle. Follow the instructions and replace the antifreeze with a 50/50 (water/antifreeze) mix, if you not sure how to mix it. You can buy them premixed 50/50. Too much water will boil over and too much antifreeze will gel up causing overheating. If you like you can replace the thermostat too, but that's not that easy on the 3.4 liter engines. If you go to Auto Zone you can pick up the antifreeze, radiator flush, and thermostat with the step by step instructions needed to get the job done. Keep me posted, be glad to answer any other questions you may have and good luck friend.

Chevy tahoe 2002 low coolant light is on. where do you add it

Chevy as most GM cars usually needs Dex-cool antefreeze
But Peak is OK as it can be used to top-off any color of automotive antifreeze including green, yellow, orange, fuschia, blue and red
More info here
http://www.peakantifreeze.com/peak_global_lifetime_5050.html
Also check the system for leaks. If you need to add coolant at least once a month there is a leak.
Good Luck
