Corona DK 23 will not light; switch is upside down!

I just installed a new wick in my Corona DK 23 kerosene heater, and put in new batteries, and now, my switch is upside down.  I don't know how this happened. When I tested it repeatedly before I sealed it inside, it was working fine.  Now what?? Now I have a full tank of fuel and if I take it apart I will have a mess.
Regardless, it will not start. I thought I could simply get used to using it upside down, but I do not see the wick. I know for certain, the wick is right side up! But something with the switch is upside down.

SOURCE: I need to change the wick on my dk 23 corona kerosene heater

what make and model is it? They are very simple to change, never heard of 1 "Not" lighting tho, unless you have water in tank and the wick sucked up the water...water don't burn,You can also raise the wick in their now if it has never been raised,as long as it don't have "riviet"looking things attached to sides of wick to fit it wick housing(Sears is good for that)If it a round or square heater it pretty much the same you have to remove the outer shell of heater, its always a good idea to dump out fuel first,at the base of wick their is usually 3 wing nuts or screw that hold wick Assembly in,after removing them you pull housing up to remove ,notice how the old one is on and remove and put new one on,when putting back in make sure wick fans out and goes to bottom tank, put back to gether and your done, most replacement wicks come with directions and height setting for the wick, Its not real hard as long as you pay attention

Turn knob all the way to the right. Your wick may not be mounted right. The pins are out of the guiding wholes.

The replacement wick you purchase will have the instructions on how to install it. Be sure you have your model number with you, when you go to purchase it. Most local independent hardware stores (True Value or Ace) stock the wicks. Where rubber gloves when replacing the wick. Especially if you still have kerosene in the tank.

Heater will not stay lit after firing it up. Replaced wick and kerosene.

Two things usually cause the problem you noted. An improperly installed wick or the tails of the wick are not all the way into the tank. Therefore, it won't absorb enough kerosene for it to continually burn

Check out those two things and one of the other should solve your problem.

Corona 23-dk heater burns fine when filled up but flames starts going very low a little pass the 1/2 line on fuel gauze. what causing that.

From your description, it sounds like the wick may need replacing or the tails of the wick are not hanging all the way down into the tank. And, therefore they are drying out. Thus, your flame gets low and eventually goes out. The only way to know is take the heater apart. If you're not comfortable doing that check with your local hardware stores, like True Value or Ace. many of these store do repairs on kerosene heaters and replace wicks. It can be a messy job, but someone has to do it.

Is it possible to manually ignite a corona 22dk kerosene heater safely with a butane lighter? the battery operated igniter is not working with new batteries installed.

I just use a match. Turn the setting dial to High. Open the little door in front. The one with glass in it. Light the match. Push the pedal down that you normally use to start it with the battery starter. Put the match into the heater and touch it to the wick. With just a regular match, I can reach in far enough to light the wick. When you have a complete ring of fire, lower the pedal slowly and close the door. It will smoke briefly and then burn. After 15 minutes lower the wick till the flame is smaller and whiter.

12-dk kerosene heater

well other then getting dirty and tearing it apart...... on the dk-12 when you install the new wick the black line needs to match up with the adjusting coller then you push the wick onto the teeth and assemble the hard part on mine is the piece below the wick that guides the wick in the bottom there needs to be a little slack so the wick can get raised and lowered. I hate to sound like I like ace hardware but from where I am at there guy there is great rebuilding these.

Corona DK 23 kerosene heater won't start

try bringing your wick up to the fully raised position and pinch and bend the wick toward the igniter until they line up right. I have two coronas one of which has a broken igniter due to wear and tear. If you open the little door, press down the start lever, and light the wick with a barbecue grill lighter, you can safely light the heater if lining up the wick fails.

Change the wick

You must be very careful and follow the instructions exactly on these wicks. The pins must be inserted into the holes on the wick holder. It is also easy to install the wick holder upside down. Look for a small up arrow on the side.

You must soak your wick for at least 30 minutes, preferably 1 hour. I know it's tempting to light it right away, especially when you are freezing, but you must wait. Wicks work by using capillary action. The fuel must have time to soak in properly.

All wicks are NOT created equal. Buy good ones, under no circumstances should you buy the ones that Walmart sells. They **** and you will be changing it in a day or two. Home depot sells a decent one, but for the really good ones visit Miles Stair wick shop. He also has some good info to deal with condensation and moisture problems.

Also note these heaters will not work if they are dirty. They must be absolutely clean of all dirt and debris, every single part. Especially the parts that come in contact with the wick.

Regular maintenance, good wicks and good fuel will keep these heaters working.
