Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

Can't get a picture

When I power up my pc, it lets me log on but I don't get a picture. I log in and nothing else happens. The screen stays dark. I've tried cutting the power, but that doesn't work either. The pc is not quite a year old yet.

Turn of your computer. disconnect external devices like printer, scanner and then try. If you still have the same problem boot in safe mode by tapping F8 key as soon as u turn on the computer. In the advanced option window select safe mode and log in as administrator. Then disable all third party services and startup items and then check. If nothing works you have to do a repair installation in case you have the XP installation CD or try System Recovery

I have a sony KDL 46xBR2 when I turn on powers up green light stays on but a dark gray screen no picture or sound

The green light merely indicates that power is getting to your TV. The symptoms you describe point to internal power supply failure

It comes on then goes to a dark screen, it never let's me get to the log in page

You need to call up the computer company because you've most likely gotten a bad virus that's shutting you out of your computer and doing who-knows-what with your personal info!

My laptop boots but nothing appears on the screen

You can check this by connecting a pc monitor to the spare VGA port on your lap top and switching the screen output. (Fn and one of the number keys with a screen on it)

If the picture on you spare monitor is good, your graphics card/chip is good, if not, you've located the problem.

If you do, get a good picture on the spare monitor, switch back to your laptop screen and look closely at the screen while, is there a very faint/dark image. If so, your inverter has failed or become disconnected. If nothing, your screen has failed or become disconnected.

You can possible check these connections yourself, if you're not handy with tools then don't because its delicate work and you need to be careful to prevent further damage.

Disconnect all forms of power - batteries & ac adaptor.

Give yourself plenty of time and space.

Open the laptop, there should be plate between the keyboard and the screen. This is usually screwed and clipped into place. So remove any screws, may include the back of the screen hinges. Then prise up, very carefully, the plate, look for more screws or resistance as you go, you don't want to break it. Eventually you should overcome all the small clips and remove the plate.

Look for ribbon connectors, probably 2 or 3, check make sure they're all home and good. If one is loose, then re-attaching it properly could well be the cure to your problem.

If they were all connected properly, then you've probably got a failed inverter. Needs replacing and this is where I stop, you need a diagram or repair manual.

The flashing power switch and power supply LED on the rear in conjunction with a power failure or surge indicates that there is a defective component; typically the power supply, motherboard, memory, processor or modem. -Disconnect all the power supply leads, drives, and motherboard as well as any USB, firewire and other external devices. -Plug in the 115v power supply cable and look at he LED on the back of the power supply. If it is still flashing the power supply is bad and needs to be replaced. -If it isn?t flashing then unplug the power supply plug in one device, plug in the power cord and watch for the flashing LED again. If it?s flashing you?ve found your culprit, if not move on to the next component and repeat the process until you?ve found it. Don?t forget your plug in cards could also be the problem. Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions. As always please don?t forget to rate this posting.
