Question about Maytag MER6772 Gemini Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

One burner does not work. The outer burner works, but smaller inside one gets no power. It is only 2 years old

When I turn on the right front, inside, smaller burner, there is no power to it, therefore it does not heat up. All of the other burners are working properly. This is about 2 years old. Way too soon for problems. Thanks.

Burner will not get hot enough

When the burner arced out it probably also ruined the switch. Most switches on a standard electric range have 5 wires. 2 wires to the burner. 2 hot wires from power and a smaller wire which connects to the indicator light marked P. It is easy to test the switch Unplug the stove. Turn the suspect switch on wide open. Check for continuity between the 2 terminals going out to the burner marked H1 and H2
If you cannot get a reading then the switch has failed. Note: when replacing the switch usually on most stove the replacement will not be or look like the original HOWEVER it will still have L1 and L2 H1 and H2 and P but the terminals are not always in the same order. If you fail to correctly connect the new switch you will fry 2 switches when both get turned on. Ouch!

Front large burner on the right overheats. Have cleaned connectors. Socket seems to be OK as well. Control for this burner may have problem, but don't know what to look for beyond the outer nob itself. My...

you need to replace youburner switch, it is failing. There is a mechanism inside this kind of switch which turns power on and off to the element, thus regulating its output. The mechanism is stuck closed, so your switch does not regulate the output, When you turn the burner on, it's on "High" no matter the knob position.

You can order the original switch here: 3148954 (use coupon code "New10" for 10% off).

To replace the switch: Unplug the range. Remove back cover of the control panel (usually an unpainted piece of sheet metal). Remove the knob in the front. Remove 2 screws holding the switch. Now disconnet wires one by one from the old switch and connect to the new one. Even if the switch looks exactly the same, make sure to match LETTERS on the switch (usually P,L1,L2,H1,H2,), not the connector position!

Good luck! ;)

I have the same problem with the LR, it is on all time and do not go off. What I did was to disconnect the yellow wire from the SF5601 power board terminal P3. Now I can use the other three burner until I got a new board. I don't have the circuit schematic but my diagnostic is that the board integrated output relay contacts are welded together. That is why the burner element is on all the time and or intermittent. THE VERDICT: The solution is to replace the surface power board SF5601

Burner on range will not turn off

Look at the back of your range there should be schemetic for your power control board. look for defective burner wire going into relay. There should be 5 relays in rows. Realy is the problem. I had the same problem with my front left burner stuck on high.
After replacing everything works okay.

Stove burner igniter does not work.

Your problem is not the igniter itself, but the burner switch that controls the igniter. All the igniters get their power from one spark module that is mounted somewhere in back of the oven. That's why you are able to get all the igniters to spark with only one burner control turned on. This is normal. That is also why you are able to light the burner in question buy turning on another burner. The spark is being provided by a switch that is working. To answer your question: the igniter is removable, but I don't think it's necessary. Cleaning them generally doesn't make them work better. I would check the wiring from the spark module to the burner switch and/or replace the switch. I hope this helps.
