Dennis: According to an old FixYa.com, urbanhookupz said: "You need to run a printer alignment page like you do when you put in new cartridges.
unplug your printer plug it back in.
open door and take out print ink cartridges.
put them back in and then close the door.
It should now prompt you to do a test alignment page.
now try and print it should solve the problem.

Aligning the Print Head
This operation must be carried out when using the printer for the first time.
Print Head positions allows you to print without shifts in the color registration.
Print head alignment is performed either automatically or manually. This section deals with
automatic Print Head alignment only.

1.With the printer on, load a sheet of Letter-sized plain paper in the Sheet

A hard reset of the printer may clear the error. Here is how to perform the hard reset: 1.Shut down the computer. 2.Open the top cover of the printer and remove the print cartridges. 3.Close the top cover of the printer. 4.Press the power button on the printer to turn the printer off. 5.Disconnect the communications, (USB or Parallel), cable from the back of the printer. 6.Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer for one minute. 7.Reconnect the communications cable to the printer. 8.Reconnect the power cable to the printer. 9.Press the printer power button to turn the printer on. 10.Open the top cover and reinsert the print cartridges. 11.Close the top cover and print the calibration page. 12.Restart the computer. First remove cartridges and remove print head and make sure the contacts on back of head look clean. I use fibreglass pen and give clean if in doubt.But be very carefull cleaning. But maybe not seated correctly.? If you pull the print head out and do another test does it come up with same message.? Try again and see what you get. Still worth replacing head if faulty as where else can you get a 8 ink printer. Unsure what head costs.
