Question about Eddie Bauer 3-In-1 with Latch

The straps are too tight on my child

It doesn't look like I can make them any longer either.

Ok. First don't panic, I did the same thing with mine! lol. In the front of the seat where your childs legs hang, there is a velco flap. Lift it up and you'll see a metal button(but it doesn't look like a button). Push it in and at the same time pull one of the shoulder straps. This will loosen the strap. Then adjust accordingly. If you remove the back plastic piece you will see all the straps underneath if you want to eventually replace them. You can also adjust the height from the back if needed. Good Luck!

There should be a set of hole under the cover that you can adjust the crotch strap
outward, away from the child as they get bigger.

I just noticed my car seat had a safety recall back in 2007 and noticed you had the same recall on the 22150. I just ordered a new kit from Cosco (which was free) to replace the faulty parts. Here's the recall notice ans website to go to: http://www.safety1st.com/usa/eng/News/Detail/309-

Dorel Juvenile Group Announces a Voluntary Safety Recall of the Harness Adjustment ******** Certain Cosco®, Safety 1st® and Eddie Bauer® Brand Child Restraint Systems
Columbus, IN August 30, 2007- Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) is issuing a voluntary safety recall for certain Cosco®, Safety 1st® and Eddie Bauer® brand child restraint systems manufactured during November 2003 through December 2005. Although no injuries have been reported, there is a potential for the harness adjustment strap to loosen during use. If this were to occur, the harness may be loose around the child, possibly increasing the risk of injury in a crash. We feel that it is important to replace the harness adjustment strap.

Model numbers affected are:
Cosco®: Alpha Omega®, Alpha Omega EliteTM: 22150, 22155, 22180, 22269; Eddie Bauer®: 3-in-1, Deluxe 3-in-1, Deluxe Convertible: 22740, 22750, 22755, 22756, 22757, 22770; Safety 1st® : Alpha EliteTM, Alpha Omega®, Alpha Omega EliteTM, Alpha SportTM, InteraTM, EnspiraTM: 22151, 22450, 22451, 22452, 22453, 22455, 22460, 22480, 22481

The model number and date of manufacture may be found on a sticker located on the side or back of the child restraint system.

DJG will contact all registered owners and provide them with information on how to obtain a free repair kit to replace the harness adjustment strap. Those consumers who have not registered their product should visit www.djgusa.com or call 800-219-0509 to order a free repair kit. The affected seats should not be returned to the retailer.

DJG encourages parents to obtain and install the repair kit as soon as possible. Parents may continue to use the child restraint system as directed in their instruction manual. Parents should be sure to adjust the harness adjuster strap snugly each time they put their child in the child restraint system. If there is any difficulty adjusting the harness adjustment strap, or it does not remain tight, DJG suggests using a different child restraint system until the repair kit has been installed.

To check for harness slippage:
(1) Fully tighten the harness, (2) pull on the harness straps without pressing or lifting the harness adjustment lever. If movement occurs, the harness is experiencing slippage.

I need help putting my childs care seat back together


Bring the straps up through the holes on the bottom of the seat, one on each side. The metal plate on the end should pull in flat and snug against the plastic. Slide the buckle pieces back on, making sure they're facing the right direction to snap in. Slide the chest clip back onto both straps. Place the ends of the straps through the slots you want the harness at (at or below the child's shoulders for rear-facing, at or above the shoulder's for forward facing), making sure that they don't twist. Pull them down low behind the seat. The adjuster part of the strap has a kind of Y shaped metal plate - pull it up to meet the ends of your straps, making sure that it doesn't twist, either. There are loops at the end of the harness straps. Feed the curved part of the Y through the loop of the strap that's on the same side of the seat. Pull it all the way through, so that the fatter part on the ends of the metal plate are exposed and curve around a bit beyond the strap so that it doesn't slip back off. Do the same with the other side. Now adjust the harness to fit your child. When it's tightened properly, you should not be able to pinch up any slack, lengthwise, at the hips or shoulders, and it should lie in a straight line down the front, with no drooping. Also adjust the chest clip - it should lie even with your child's armpits - not up in the neck, and not over the belly, where it can't do it's job properly. (It's job is to hold the straps over the center of the shoulders...if it's over the belly, they're likely to slip down off of the shoulders in an accident or sudden stop and also poses the danger of internal injuries.) If you also took the **** buckle out, it goes back in from the top. Turn it so that you can slip the metal plate through the slot, slide it through, and then pull the plate flat underneath, so that it can't come back through. One other thing - car seat harnesses should never be submerged in water, as it can damage and weaken the webbing. They should only cleaned with a damp rag. If you put your harness in water when you washed the rest of the seat, I'd strongly recommend contacting Cosco (contact info here) to order a replacement harness.

Basically, locate the ends of the straps on either side of the seat. You can remove the plastic end thingy and take the strap out. Then re-thread the strap. Remember to thread it through the thin grey strap (which adjusts the tension of the main shoulder straps) as well as the little metal guide at the back of the chair.

Your problem may also be that the length-adjuster (thinner grey strap) is too tight. You can loosen it by pressing on the button located just in front of the main buckle and pulling on the shoulder straps. This is also how you tighten the shoulder straps - by pulling on the thinner grey strap.

Generally, the shoulder straps should come out around the childs shoulder level. Higher is ok. Lower is bad because it doesn't secure him in.

Need help with putting straps back on


I know this is months later, but here you are in case you (or anyone else) needs the info again. First, though, I feel that it wouldn't be responsible to neglect to tell you that if you got the seat in 2000, it is expired and no longer safe to use. Car seats generally expire after 6 years because the plastic degrades over time - in a 10 year old seat, it can look fine but actually be brittle enough that the entire harness can rip out of the seat if it's an accident. For the manual, visit Cosco's website and fill in the product number and date of manufacture. It will bring up a PDF file of the manual that you can download. To rethread the straps, first replace the **** strap. Slide the metal plate down through the slot in the seat, with the buckle facing out. Slide the metal clip under the tab and push it down to lock it in place. Facing the seat, start by threading the end of the harness strap down through the slot of the left side of the bottom (where the child's right hip would be). Under the pad/cover, thread it across the bottom of the seat and up through the matching slot on the right side. Pull it until you have equal lengths on both sides. Thread the buckles onto the the strap (one one each end) and buckle them. Thread the chest buckle onto both ends, making sure that the harness doesn't twist. Buckle it, too. Push the ends through the harness slots. Pull the harness through to the back, making sure that it goes OVER the metal bar, but UNDER the plastic adjuster handle. There is a loop sewn into each end of the harness. The adjuster strap has a splitter plate, kind of shaped like a Y. Slide each loop over the ends of the plate and all of the way into the slot, so that the curved ends of the splitter plate are exposed and the strap is secure in it's slot. Adjust the harness height by squeezing the metal bar on the back of the seat (the one behind the harness) forward and moving it and the plastic adjuster bar up or down to the correct position (at or below the shoulders for rear-facing, at or above the shoulders for forward facing). Do note that the very top slot is NOT for use with the harness - it's only to adjust the headrest when the seat is being used as a seat belt positioning booster and is not reinforced to support the harness in an accident! Adjust the tightness of the straps with the button/extra length on the front of the seat. Properly tightened straps should lay in a straight line without sagging and you should not be able to pinch up any slack (lengthwise going down the harness, not across the width of it) at the shoulders or hips. Adjust the chest buckle to lie in line with your child's armpits, never his neck or belly.

Manual for a car seat


First set the harness together at the chest clip and the **** buckle. Then slide each shoulder strap through at the best height for your child. For a forward facing seat , it should be at or above the shoulders. Once both shoulders are passed through, there is a Tshapped metal flat piece, each belt slides onto that. That is 2 of the 4 ends of the straps squared away. The bottom 2 , you slide through the holes in the car seat, through the holes in the shell of the seat, and then pull to ensure they are in tight.
