This (reboot) is related to some drivers or hardware issue or pwer supply problem.
Start up your computer and before start loading windows hit F8 and select "safe mode"
Check there what is going on.

My hardisck no deteck in my PC

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Boot disk failure no hard disk found

The error means that your system is not able to detect the hard drive on the system, check if the hard drive wire connections are tight and not loose and then try rebooting the system.

Look for hard drive stats on POST whether it succeeds or fails. This is how you can do that.
When system boots up, press the PAUSE?BREAK on the black screen and see whats system comment for your hard drive power test. If it succeeds and your hard drive's connections are also tight then possibly your hard drive might have crashed ( which means there are bad sectors on the hard disk).

Try performing disk checking on the hard drive to see if there are any bad sectors on the hard disk, the disk check will automatically fix the soft errors but if the errors and hard errors in that case the disk checking utility will not automatically fix the errors and you will need to get a new hard drive.

Thanks !!!

I have HP Pavilion dv6500 laptop with 120 gb hard drive. Are there problem issues upgrading to a 500gb or larger hard drive?

No there is no problem in upgrading the hard drive.
You can upgrade it as much as your system supports it.First check your system capacity of expansion of the hard drive's space. You must know the maximum capacity of the hard disk on your system .
Thanks.
Have a great day.

Long periods of hard drive activity

Most likely, it could be the amount of ram you have in your computer. If your running low on ram and it is using the virtual memory your computer can be running all the time causing a slow down in whatever you do. Check to see how much ram you have :)

I replaced a bad 120 gb hard drive with a WD 500gb sata hard drive. Installation went fine, however I am having trouble with the reinstall of the XP system. It freezes up at the point where it asks if you...

First, I would remove the 120 from the system during installation. If possible, use a Windows XP disc w/ SP2 to speed up installation of the OS. Plus SP2 handles a maximum disk size error which limits you maximum partition size. (Under SP1 I think the largest partition can be 137 MB)
I would recommend using NTFS format for the hard drive.
Once it is installed, you can always re-connect it to simplify the installation.
If it's still freezing, check the disc for damage or defects.

use a windows 98 floppy statup disk and type fdisk enter yes yes again then delete and formatted partitions created new partition do not exceed 34 gigs for fat part. reboot type format c: after format is complete use xp disk and delete the partition you just created and let windows take over
if you cannot access the drive at all with fdisk you may need to repair the mbr on the hard drive if this is the problem write back

How to install new HD w/o a floppy?

Hi,
Your computer should be able to handle either the 120 or 150 replacement drive. Most drives today come ready to load. Your Dell installation disk would be the best bet to install everything on the new drive. The restore disk will look for existing software and not find it. The other thing you might want to try is once you get the new disk up and running, change the pin setting on the second drive to be a slave drive and your new drive to a master with slave, and try to recover your data. If you don't have the dell install disk, a copy of Windows will also do the trick. No you don't need a floppy unless you plan on reformatting the new drive.

Hope this helps
Mark

I need a new hard drive

You can go up to 120 GB for this model computer. Following is a link to Drive Solutions, Inc. It shows a 120 GB ATA drive available for your drive. ATA is the formal name for an IDE drive.

Here's the link:

Good luck.
