Jenn-Air Downdraft ducting roof Rack w/flapper

I am looking for a high quality roof mounted termination vent cap for 8" O.D. round ducting for my Jenn-Air downdraft Stove Top/Convection oven. The reason for the 8" ducting is that I am using insulated stove piping out of the wall of the house into a cold porch then up through the roof. I have come across a Broan Vent Cap that will accommodate 3-1/2" by 10" rectangular ducting and/or 8" O.D. round ducting. The problem with this Broan unit is it has an aluminum flapper that has no counter resistance mechanism to keep from readily flapping open and shut during weather related wind events. Is there something better out there? I found you guys through a Jenn-Air link. Help!

An 8" B-vent cap should work fine. Can be purchased at any plumbing supply. Just make sure you attach it with screws.

Can this be installed over an island?

Bring a focal point to your kitchen by having an island range hood, combining function and elegant form. A suspended hood is also an efficient way to vent
grease, odors and smoke to the outside from a island stovetop while you cook. You can install an island range hood in just a few hours with the right tools
and knowledge.
1.Wear safety glasses and work gloves. Turn off the electricity to your kitchen at the circuit panel. Cover the circuit breaker with a piece of electrical
tape to prevent people from turning the on switch while you are at work.
2.Lay work drop cloths on your cooktop and floor to catch dust and debris. Mark the duct opening with a pencil in the ceiling, where the island hood will be
installed. Be sure the opening is centered directly above your cooktop. Cut the opening using a hacksaw.
3.Go up to the roof, using a cat's claw and hammer to remove stucco, tiles, sheathing and insulation to make way for the steel venting duct. Drop a
plumb bob down the roof, making sure the line is straight down for the ductwork.
4.Follow the manufacturer's instructions for locations, installing 2-by-2 wooden blocks in the ceiling to hold the ductwork hangers.
5.Install the venting duct from the outside of the home, down to the location of the exhaust vents on the island hood. The ducts should easily slip into each
other. Secure all the duct sections with duct sealing putty, using a putty knife.
6.Screw a roof cap on the end of the duct at the roof. Seal any openings or gaps where the roof, ceiling and duct meet with silicon sealant. Let the sealant
dry, then paint with colors matched to the surrounds.
7.Place your hood upside-down on the floor, with the fan and filter facing upward. Locate and unscrew the metal electrical box cover on the island range
hood, to expose the wiring
8.Install the hood cover to the load-bearing ceiling frame with the package hardware through the four inside mounting corner flanges on the cover.
9.Measure what will be the distance from the bottom of your hood to the cooktop; it should not exceed 30 inches for exhaust efficiency. Have a helper hold
the hood in place while you attach the hood on the hood cover using the included screws. Use a level be sure the hood is level as mounted.
10.Connect the electrical wiring by consulting the manufacturer's suggestions or hire an electrician if you are not familiar with house wiring. Tuck the wires neatly in the hood electrical box and then replace the cover, after connecting the hood wires to the wall wiring.
11.Remove the electrical tape on the circuit breaker, turn on the electricity to your kitchen and test your island range hood.

Can fan be lower when operating at full speed

Improper air flow was also my problem. The contractor did a terrible installation job. The duct work was incomplete at the transition piece (he used the under cabinet space as part of the duct) and did not seal the duct to the fan assembly. Both items were not readily visible. Once the duct was correctly installed, the unit works fine. Remember a down draft is never as good as an overhead vent.

Cook 'n Vent Downdraft Up/Down Mechanism Replacing

just the switch should be replacable. My vent has a screw at each end (philips flatheads - accessible only when vent is up) just under the top cap. Removing the screws and cap should give you access to the switch. Just make sure you cut your breaker off first.

Damper need for Broan Range Hood

I called tech support at Broan and was told they recommend two dampers in cold climates ...one at in the wall cap and one on the unit. They make the damper,
(#BP87-7"), that attaches to the round duct plate that comes with the hood. Strangely the unit does not include a round damper and the seller LOWES did not have it, also checked Home Depot,.
The Tech said they can't get stores to stock it. I checked at a local supplier of all kinds of plumbing, heating, and cooling supplies and they only had basic 7" dampers which, I was told would probably be too heavy, and be manual. I ordered it through Amazon/True Value ($11.56 w/ shipping, shipping more than cost of damper). Tech indicated that the 2nd (unit damper) is optional and may not be needed if in a warm climate. I would suggest that Broan include the $5.00 item in their unit or at least sellers stock it.

GE zv950 monogram hood problem

You should be able to remove the flappers they are there for energy reasons. I cannot see how a little fresh air entering your house could be a problem. By the way I had the same problem in Ft laud with my hood. Just held the flapper up and used a touch of super glue to lock the shaft. Good luck

No Air suction into downdraft.

there won't be any noticable suction like with a vacuum unless the cfm rating is very high. the distance of the hood from the cooking surface is a factor too as you are sucking in room air besides the stove fumes and steam.
