Bosch vacuum Motor turns off after a few minutes

The motor will turn on at first and work but then turns off after a few minutes. It is still getting power because the headlights stay on. Any ideas?
Thanks

The filter seems clean - there is airflow around the hose and the powerhead...any other suggestions?

It sounds like you have a motor protection fuse that resets after an overheat/cooling cycle. These work the same as a circuit breaker in your house with the difference being they can reset themselves. The Bosch will also shut down if there is insufficient airflow and I would check your filters first.1) Pull the filter and let the machine run.Do not pick up debris when you operate without a filter-it will be drawn straight into the motor. If it runs fine without shutting down, all you need to do is change your filter. If it shuts down again check the external hose for any blockages. Also check the throat from the powerhead for any blockages. If you continue to have the same problem then you will need to replace the fuse because at this point you have eliminated all the other likely problems.Good Luck-Scott

My vacuum has the same problem when the filter needs to be cleaned. Just twist the filter cover to take it off, then press the red button on top of the canister to release the filter and pull it out. Fine particles of dust collect on the filter causing the motor to overheat and shut off. Take an old toothbrush and clean the filter. Install it once you're done, and the vacuum should work fine.

You may have a thermal reset in the vacuum motor that shuts the motor off if it gets hot. Clean the vacuum and replace the filters.

The motor may have a thermal protect feature built in. Opens circuit when too hot. This is to protect motor and to prevent a fire. If you can check for lint build up around motor. Also, motor could be on it's way out.

I know nothing about your particular vacuum, but many vacuum cleaners these days have
safety cut out's, which causes the motor to do exactly what you describe. Sadly blockages, faulty switches, over stretched cables, carbon brushes etc could also give similar symptoms, so sounds like a job for the repairer on this occasion. Get a quote first if you can.

When I turn the vacuum on it sounds really loud, louder than usual, and after a few minutes it smells like burning rubber around the canister. The vacuum is still sucking.

The armature is probably missing a plate and the motor is about ready to burn up, but check the filter and screen on the bottom of the motor first. The screen can be checked by removing the filter and looking up at the motor from below. Clean if necessary by removing the motor. Unplug the unit first. If the motor sounds rough and smells like something electrical burning. It's going to need to be replaced. Check your model # and order a replacement. Pretty easy to install if you get the right motor. Get the foam gasket for under the motor if your replacing a three stage motor.

My vacuums power shut off while vacuuming

Its a good chance that your vacuum motor has either shorted out or become burnt out, this can happen after a few years of use. My only real suggestion, being what i would do in your situation, either contact dyson and try and get another motor, alternatively, contact a 2nd hand motor place, maybe a white goods store, and they may have a vacuum motor to suit as Dyson spare parts can be expensive. I hope this offers some assistance.

My vacuum won't work-

sounds like the motor might have bit the dust.try this, unplug the vacuum and reach under where the brush rolle is and try to turn the roller by hand a few times,if you can't turnit then then the roller is jammed.take the belt off and then turn it on and see if it runs then.let the motor cool down first the motorguard might be keeping it from running.just let it cool down for about 20 minutes then try it

Vacuum won't turn on

there is an overheat stat which turns motor off. possible cause is filters blocked or a blockage elsewhere - no air flow and the motor overheats
