Volume controller knob problem with the Altec Lansing VS3121

I don’t know but it seems that the knob has a problem because when you turn it to raise the volume the sound goes off completely. Sometimes only one side of the speakers work, either the right or left, or both don’t work. I can tell it’s a problem with the knob because if I slightly touch the knob either both speaker work, one side work, or they both go out. I was wondering how I could fix this problem or how much would it cost to get it fixed.

I had the same problem. One day I heard two pops and the speaker, including the power light, were dead. Neither Dell nor Altec Lansing support them. They're throw-aways, unless you know a genius electronics technician.

SOURCE: Finding replacement Power Supply for Altec Lansing

I did the same! Thanks for suggesting a call to Customer Support (800)258+3288. The guy didn't seem overly pleased to help, but he did promise to send me a new power supply. Also, he said that they don't make the iM7 anymore, but I had already found out that the iM9 uses the same power supply. I, too, will wait and see.

just sone it, i had to break a whole in the bottom part , work my way around it with a screwdriver , it will snap every 2-3 cm and come off in the end.
after its off start at the (now exposed) bottom of the front bit and work your way up and aroud `till it comes off. mind the wires . as for the volume button fix , as soon as i played with it and tried it again , everything was good. even though replacing it doesn`t seem like a big deal
put it back together and will superglue it in the future( while typing this i doubt if it will ever happen), and it lookes good( except from the bottom ,where its broken !).
now the button is solid and the sound as well.

Hi there, by saying you found, do you mean that is a complete set, I have the same speaker set, and the volume control knob is on one of the satellite speaker. If you are missing that speaker I doubt that you can do anything with it because you will most likely find them for sale as a set and not separate. Thanks hope this helps.

Low volume on Altec Lansing 4.1 system

if the volume controls of the speaker is set to 100% together with the volume control on your computer then still get a low volume, try some other device where you can use your speaker like mp4,if still got same problem, bring it to a service center there might have a problem with the amplifier.

First things first:
1) check your speaker for good connector, and all is working is playing fine.
2) check if your warranty covers one SPK. or RMS
other than that ,
Good Luck
