Volume controller knob problem with the Altec Lansing VS3121

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} The volume control knob, which is a separate unit from the speakers it’s not built into the speaker, is the power on and off of the entire unit and volume control. I don’t know but it seems that the knob has a problem because when you turn it to raise the volume the sound goes off completely. Sometimes only one side of the speakers work, either the right or left, or both don’t work. I can tell it’s a problem with the knob because if I slightly touch the knob either both speaker work, one side work, or they both go out. I was wondering how I could fix this problem or how much would it cost to get it fixed.

SOURCE: output board for Altec Lansing ADA995

I had the same problem. One day I heard two pops and the speaker, including the power light, were dead. Neither Dell nor Altec Lansing support them. They're throw-aways, unless you know a genius electronics technician.

SOURCE: Finding replacement Power Supply for Altec Lansing

I did the same! Thanks for suggesting a call to Customer Support (800)258+3288. The guy didn't seem overly pleased to help, but he did promise to send me a new power supply. Also, he said that they don't make the iM7 anymore, but I had already found out that the iM9 uses the same power supply. I, too, will wait and see.

Love my speakers but not working now, how do I fix them, are there common faults?

Aztec Lansing used to be good, now not so good. My first ones went at the power source. The replacement had a hiss even with the switch turned off and the volume control was scratchy and uneven. You can fix this by lying the speaker with the volume control on its back and spraying WD40 or better still Switch Cleaner around the control and then turning the knob. Do the same for the on / off button.

I replaced mine with Bowers and Wilkins MM1. Much more expensive but quality sound from a small high precision unit. They also have full warranty.

Scratchy sounding volume controls?

If you have a scratchy sounding volume control or your channels cut in and out when adjusting the volume you are most likely suffering from a dirty potentiometer (volume knob) Fully disassemble your DTT2500 unit and liberally spray electronics cleaner in every party of the volume knob (and the other knobs as well). Let fully dry before reassembling.

Subwoofer makes noise like an untuned TV regardless of volume knob

I would suggest your crossover unit has failed in the speaker cabinet. The crossover circuit board separates the low and high frequency content of your stereos audio signal. The low frequencies go to the bass unit (woofer) and the high frequencies go to the tweeter speaker. If the capacitor on the crossover goes open or near open circuit then noise is introduced into the sound system. Replace either the capacitor or crossover unit.

Have old labtec cs 1000 speaker system with power control center. separate volume controls do not work. Volumn adjustment with computer sound control only. cannot find instructions for hookup. suggestions?...

There are two sets of inputs in the back. One set will allow control from the front of the unit, and the other from the computer. In That case, the front knobs are disengaged.

I recently found some awesome altec lansing speakers with a huge sub too. but ... i can't find the volume control knob and without that, i can't make it work !! T___T any solutions? i tried looking for...

Hi there, by saying you found, do you mean that is a complete set, I have the same speaker set, and the volume control knob is on one of the satellite speaker. If you are missing that speaker I doubt that you can do anything with it because you will most likely find them for sale as a set and not separate. Thanks hope this helps.

My logitech x240 surround powers on but no sound comes out....what could be the problem??

If you have an extra headset around, plug it into the same place the speakers are plugged into, if it works, your speakers are bad (or check to make sure the power light is on on them and that their volume knob is turned up).
If you still do not get sound, click on your little volume/speaker icon by your clock, then click 'mixer' at the bottom of it (Windows 7 hopefully?). Make sure the different volume controls are turned up because sometimes one low one will affect the entire system.
(If Windows XP, right-click the speaker, then 'Open Volume Control'. Adjust until you hear sound.)

Only one small speaker is working, it works from left or right outlet, bass isn't working and the other small speaker isn't working. What could be wrong

Your main board located inside the sub woofer that controls and separates the sound
has lost it's ability to switch the sound. You will either have to buy a new speaker system or call the manufacturer to see where a service center for you speaker unit is near you for repair.
This also can be a bad volume control knob either way it will need to be serviced.
