It's a Camcorder 770, and I used a cleaning mini DV cassette and that actually took care of the problem ;)

Hi

Not sure what model you have, but it sounds like your LCD may be bad; hard to say with the information you provided.

Is it a camcorder and not a camera? If so can you take a video and view it through your TV? If so then your LCD is probably either disconnected or damaged and needs to be plugged back in or replaced.

Hope this helps.

I have an old Sony CCD TR55E Handycam, I bought from new. Now I want to transfer my tapes to DVD, and seem to have lost sound output playing tapes to TV/Recorder. Tried running tape cleaner, no succes

What is your signal path? The question you need to answer is, "Where are you losing the audio?" Are you losing it between the tape and the playback head, or are you losing it in the cable, or are you losing it at the TV/Recorder?

Does the camera have an audio out into which you can plug ear buds to test the audio from the camera playback?

If you put in a empty tape and record something to it does the same problem happen?

Would seem a like a problem in the reader.

Hi,

Based on the information you've provided, it seems that the issue is with the dirt in the Video Head of the Camcorder. You can try using new Hi8 tapes for recording the videos to check if they are playing back normally. If the audio is working normally in the Camcorder, then the issue is with the dirt on the video head. If the issue persists with all the tapes, then the video head can be cleaned using a dry Video Head Cleaner Cassette. You can purchase the cassette from the Sony Authorized dealers or from the local electronics store. Please make sure that the cleaning cassette is compatible with the Camcorder.
This should resolve the issue.

Thanks for using FixYa.

The gray strips usually mean the camera has dirt video heads - if it hasn't been dropped. Get a head-cleaning tape from Radio Shack or Best Buy, and run it a few times. If that doesn't do it, it'll have to be cleaned by a repair shop. Off brand tapes sometimes can cause this.

I have a Canon Elura 100 that "thinks" it is playing back a video and the tape is winding in the machine, but all I see in the viewfinder is a blue screen and there is no sound.

Try connecting it to a tv with the audio video cord and see if you get anything then. If not then there is probably an internal problem. which i know that from one repair Camera company would cost 199 to get anything internal fixed so you will want to try to get a local repair person to look at it and maybe its jsut a simple fix.
