Hunter ceiling fan: how to open the canopy to replace remote receiver

My Hunter ceiling fan is model 20537, but this applies to many other Hunter fan models. When trying to open the canopy to replace the remote control receiver unit, I could not easily open the canopy. It had no visible screws or clips. It had an upper plastic ring, so the apparent solution was to twist it left or right in a circular motion. This did not work either. I could not find the installtion booklet, and was not able to find the information in my internet searches. At long last I learned how to open the canopy, and am posting my own solution here.

To open the canopy at the ceiling, which houses the wiring and the remote control receiver, you first must remove the smooth upper plastic ring. The way to do this may not necessarily be intuitive. You must squeeze the plastic ring inward to allow it to clear two small internal clips that hold it up. But this only works in one direction, so it may take a number of tries to find which direction to squeeze inward. Once the ring slides down the canopy drops, and there are 2 screws that hold this model fan up to the shallow steel box attached to the ceiling. Be aware that removing these 2 screws will permit the weight of the entire fan to be released downward. This fan is hinged on 2 small metal tabs, so removing the screws will not cause the fan to fall, but only to swing down on one side.

SOURCE: Hunter ceiling fan (model no. 25736) and light not starting

Home Depot sells universal remote systems (transmitter and receiver) for around $30 (in Delaware & Pennsylvania) -- don't know price in Chicago).

I'd just replace it. Hunter may be correct that they are the only source for the receiver, but if you get a new transmitter as well, you don't need their receiver. The labor is the same either way.

SOURCE: The canopy doesn't seeem to fit flush up against

You just need to wrap it and tuck it .. You might need to cut some of the fan wires shorter so there is not so much bulk under the canopy cover. The fans are shipped with enough wire leads to be able to use a down rod, They can be cut shorter when the fan is being installed.

Hunter ceiling fan remote control will not work

Are you talking about just activating the fan, or the tv as well? If you just need the fan, in the top plate where your fan is mounted into the ceiling, there is a box. This box has 4 switches that are turned on or off towards a number. You find that and then just open your remote up and set the switches in the remote to the identical numbers. I need help for the tv codes i lost the booklet, i need the codes for a daewoo.

Hunter 3 speed ceiling fan now turns slowly

Probably a bad capacitor. What model is it? If it completely wireless (in other words: no pull chains for light or fan) the capacitor is located on the receiver for the fan (in the canopy or the lower switch housing). Unless you are handy with a soldering iron, it is easier to purchase a replacement receiver.
