Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies
Thats true about the rollers, but the HP 4000 "groan" is common.
Remove the pickup roller from the paper tray. Right behind it on the same shaft is a TORQUE LIMITER. Go ahead and remove that. Now Replace the roller to EXACTLY where it was, you will find the detant position. (dont go too far as the tork limiter is not there now) Print a page.... Does the noise stop? If so all you need is a torque limiter, and you can even fix your own limiter. EASY.

This happens when the rubber on the roller is worn or has accumulated paper dust on it. The rubber is of a blue or grey color. Usually you can clean the gear with cotton swab and alcohol.
Also, there is a roller in the paper tray and a rubber pad that can be cleaned with alcohol.
If it is badly worn, you can order a replacement. There is a maintenance kit available which contains a fuser, transfer gear and up to six rollers. I keep one kit handy to keep my HP in top form.
