Thermostats do not have a reset
IF the dryer has failed by overheating, the device is called a thermal fuse, it is a one-shot protector, and needs to be replaced.
If the thermal fuse has blown the dryer is likely {expletive deleted} with lint and needs to be cleaned.
STILL require make and model details for replacement instructions

Hotpoint CTD 40 , is not the model number!
You cand find the model number when you open the dryer door, it is on a label around the door jam or opening to the dryer!

Until I hear from you with the model number , you can first try to reset the system.
Try by unplugingthe dryer for 5 minutes and then restarting it!
if you can not reach the plug, you can throw the circuit breaker off.

Let me know if this works. waiting for your model

What does F-11 mean on a hotpoint CTD 80

It means that the pump is disconnected.

You need to check the pump to see if that operated or with the aide of a multimeter, see if it has an open circuit - no continuity.
Check the wiring to the pump to see that all the leads are connected and have continuity.
Check the main board connection, should be connector J5 to the pump for continuity.
If all the above are fine that leaves just the main board as a suspect.

My hotpoint ctd 40 wont heat up

Things that could stop a electric dryer from heating:
- house fuse or breaker ( needs two of them ), heating element, burnt wire, thermostat(s), thermal fuse ( not all models ), motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, burnt power cord/plug.
A ohm meter test for these parts is here.

Runs slow then speefds up

If it is slow in starting, could be faulty start capacitor, slack or worn belt, overloading of course.
the capacitor is mounted near the motor, and is a round cylindrical tube about 4" long.
If u require any more info , then let me know.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.
