The software states that it is install but when try to bring up the file it says that windows needs to know what software wrote it. Vox problem- I don't have a mic to my laptop so I can't speak to you so all communication needs to be typed.
If you load the software for the RP512-A you will have an icon (Digital Voice Master) on your desktop which is the program that reads your recording through a USB cable to the side of your recorder. It is pretty straight forward so from there you can make an .exe file from your recording, click on it and it plays with your media player. It won't load on Vista 64-bit, but it loads on either W2GPro or XP. Or maybe 98 but I don't have a box loaded with 98 to try it out.
Its JUNK....Yup, it is terrible....RCA again chooses a lousy format making it almost unuseable on a computer. This is my LAST RCA Product. BEWARE records in .VOC formt...JUNK

I had to reformat my 5120A Voice Recorder. The recorder works fine now, but when I try to transfer recorded files to my computer using the software, I get a prompt that says bad file format. The files that were transferred to the computer before reformatting can be played back with no problem.
This rp5120-a records and plays back fine. My issue is converting the files into wav. It says my file format is bad. Now I have removed all my lectures from the recorder. It would be great to actually put a lecture on the unit but I have not found a way to do this. Is it possible? Most mp3 players I thought allowed you the ability to put what ever you want on them. Also the storage on this does not seem to be 104 hours worth of recording. I had maybe 8 lectures on the A track and 6 on the C track with no more than 20 hours total lecture and it told me the unit was full.
