I recently got a new tv but I dont have cable so my dad gave me a cord to plug into the tv to connect my laptop too it so that I can watch netflix online streaming on my tv. It worked for like 3 months with no problems then it randomly started saying "invalid format" and wont show up anymore, my dad has tried to look at it but cant seem to find the problem and I have searched and searched for answers and tried everything I know how to fix it but nothing is working, Its not the tv or the cord because when I plug in my friends laptop or my sisters laptop it works fine, and I dont think it would be my laptop because like I said it worked for like 3 months then it stopped. I have tried everything I can find online.
Sounds like you may need to check your video drivers for an update, besides Windows itself find out what video you have Intel or Amd and update thru their website. It can also be that your tv is running at a resolution that your laptop might not support. However most new video drivers allow for custom resolution settings that can be applied besides the native ones in windows. If its a vga cable I almost can be certain that it is not allowing the native resolution of your display.Hdmi will automatically adjust it.Also try hooking the laptop up to a Pc monitor and check for a display if it works on the monitor you need a custom resolution for your tv. Also try a different input on the tv (if ones available) and check it.
