Using the software is not going to help you locate the serial number for the camera.

The serial number for the camera is located on the warranty card that came with the camera. You also may be able to contact Olympus Customer Service if you registered the camera on their website as they may be able to look up that information for you. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3

How do i check a serial number

Unfortunately there is no central database or system for this sort of thing.

It is possible (but extremely unlikely) that you could contact Sony customer support and tell them your concerns and supply the serial number. If the original owner registered their device it is remotely possible that Sony could contact them and inquire if the device was sold, stolen or reported missing. However not everyone registers their devices and if it was never registered this wouldn't work.

This is an extreme longshot, however, unless you are talking about a professional studio camera worth tens of thousands of dollars. It is highly doubtful that Sony would want to get involved in tracking down the legitimate owner of a standard consumer device.

Another option is to call the police department (probably where the seller is located) and inquire if that device with that serial number has been reported as stolen.

If you are buying a used item and have even the slightest doubt about it being stolen the best advice is do not buy it. Buying a stolen device is an arrestable offense (Receiving Stolen Property) and, although unlikely, you could get in trouble for it if there was an investigation or the seller got arrested subsequently.

A price that is "too good to be true" is a bad sign. Trust your gut and, even though it might be something you really want, avoid it if it seems questionable.

Do Nikon duplicate (re-use) serial numbers on different models of DSLR?

They reuse serial numbers. You need both the model and the serial number to uniquely identify a camera.

I recently had this camera stolen... and cannot, for the life of me, find my instruction manual--as it was bought 6 years ago--to give the serial number to police. I was wondering, as I have my charger for...

The serial number is not on the charger. Contact the manufacturer at their website. If you registered the camera with them, they will have the records.

My camera was stolen over the weekend. To try to find the camera, the police need the serial number. I still have the box it came in with teh manual. Is there any way to get the serial number off the box...

Hi, On the side of the box there should be barcodes, the serial tends to be a mixture of letters and numbers where as the product identifier is just numbers. If you need more help let me know.

I have had my camera stolen. I am trying to file a police report and they need the serial number. All I have left is the instruction manual and the cd-rom guide. Is the number in there somewhere?

Hi, Those wouldn't have the serial number however it can be found with your camera's EXIF data which you can get from putting the photo on Flickr or into photoshop. If you need more help let me know.

My problem is...that my camera was stolen! I am trying to get another (eBay, etc) but getting no luck. Bought it back in 2005 so maybe too old to replace now. Wondering if you ever get to hear of...

Here is a site that yo can use to track any pictures that have been uploaded on the internet fro your stolen camera. It uses the serial number stored internally on your camera to locate pictures that have been uploaded with the same serial number. http://consumerist.com/2011/04/find-your-stolen-camera-by-searching-web-for-uploaded-pictures-from-it.html
Would help you find a replacement used camera, but you did not post make, model #, etc...
Good luck. RJ

My nikon camera was stolen about 5 months ago and i wanna know if tell them what the serial number was if nikon can track it down

Giving the police the serial number will only help if it turns up somewhere such as a pawn shop. They cannot "track" the camera by the serial number.

I have a vivitar 3.3mpix but i need a manual is there one availabe? serial #A45K2056B

not enough info, a serial # is unique to YOUR camera. (for tracking stolen goods...) what you need is the model number. is it a vivicam 3705, like the one in the picture? if so, here you go http://www.fixya.com/support/p218408-vivitar_vivicam_3705_digital_camera/manual-15199 ...if not, give me the MODEL number and i will try my best. good luck

Serial number of olympus Muster-fe-100

This software supplied with the camera does not need a serial number usually.

However the best advice I can offer for Softwarer supplied with cameras is to leave it in the Box
Windows does not need it to access images and there is plenty of better software for image manipulation available free for example Google Picasa
