Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W7 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Cybershot DSC W7 screen only shows streaky lines

Shades of colour when screen turned on or lens captures a different image, but no picture.
The camera was briefly exposed to rain, but worked for a short while afterwards, then went blank-ish.
I opened the casing to make sure it was dry inside, to no avail.
Please can you help?

Hello, thank you for your prompt reply,

    in answer to your questions/suggestions:

*When you opened the camera did you see any corrosion? NO, I didn't....

*Check the cables and clean them if they are corroded: I tried to tease them a bit, but no change to the picture...

I have been on your site, and seen that you have a couple of spares for the W7. Not the ones you tell me about unfortunately...

I think that the costs involved in repairing the camera might come to more than the value of the object... I am located in France.

I will give the camera time to think about it and change its mind maybe? I still have a P71 to use.

Many thanks again for your reply, I will look again for corrosion.

    Sincerely,

    Okidoc.

Hi

Sounds like your CCD or mainboard (PCB) is defective, possibly from the exposure to water. The CCD converts the light into a digital signal and the PCB is the 'motherboard' of the camera and does all the work, like a computer motherboard.

When you opened the camera did you see any corrosion? If so you can try and clean it off with rubbing alcohol, this may solve the problem. Check the cables and clean them if they are corroded.

If that doesn't work then you need to try replacing the CCD or the complete lens assembly if you can't get just a CCD... and if that doesn't work then you need to try replacing the main PCB.

We are a digital camera repair shop, (Google DARNTOOTHYSAM) if we can help please let us know!

Good luck from Darntoothysam com

This maybe two problems, the pink color hue in the picture and lines from lens shutter problems. Your LCD is still good. You have to replace motherboard and lens.

Something in the lens unit is broken. The unit can't be fixed but needs to be replaced with a new or unit unit. A new lens unit would cost about half the price of the camera though...

Pictures fuzzy when you look through the viewer.

The viewfinder and the picture lens are totally separate. If it looks fuzzy, and then comes out fuzzy, the capture screen inside needs cleaned. The main lens and viewfinder lenses should be cleaned too.
Get estimates before you say yes to the work. It might be cheaper to buy another camera, unless you can do the work yourself.
