Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W7 Digital Camera
Shades of colour when screen turned on or lens captures a different image, but no picture.
The camera was briefly exposed to rain, but worked for a short while afterwards, then went blank-ish.
I opened the casing to make sure it was dry inside, to no avail.
Please can you help?
Sounds like your CCD or mainboard (PCB) is defective, possibly from the exposure to water. The CCD converts the light into a digital signal and the PCB is the 'motherboard' of the camera and does all the work, like a computer motherboard.
When you opened the camera did you see any corrosion? If so you can try and clean it off with rubbing alcohol, this may solve the problem. Check the cables and clean them if they are corroded.
If that doesn't work then you need to try replacing the CCD or the complete lens assembly if you can't get just a CCD... and if that doesn't work then you need to try replacing the main PCB.
