It sounds like your "backlight" went out. This is a tiny compact fluorescent bulb in the LCD that lights up the screen. There are usually two reasons for this 1) the bulb burns out or 2) the little circuit board that powers the light fails, this is called the "inverter board" and is either in the "lid" (screen part) of the laptop or in the main base of the laptop. That's why there is a really dim picture. There are two parts of the LCD, one to produce the picture and the bulb that illuminates this picture so you can see it easily.

There's no easy way to test this. You will either have to replace the LCD or replace the inverter board to check. Usually the problem is with the inverter board, which is good because it can be easier to replace and a lot cheaper than a new LCD screen.

You can check HERE to see if any of these guides looks like they might help you replace the inverter. They don't have your exact computer, but they do have several models that are similar.

If you take it to a commercial repair shop it will probably cost between $250-400 to repair. If you contact someone good through Craigslist or some other similar service in your area, you should be able to find someone to do it for about $50+ parts.

Good luck.

Keep my screen on if watching movies

Hi John, easiest would be to disable your Power Management. Look for the screen or display settings and disable that so that your screen is not switched off.

Remember to enable it again to conserve your battery life.

Hope this helps.

What could be the problem with my laptop (Lenovo G460, Processor - Intel Pentium)

Does it come back up if you reboot? If so, you might have a video driver problem. Your laptop has an Nvidia N11M-GE1 graphics chip integrated into the system. You can download the drivers here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g460-notebook

However, you may have a worse problem. White screen issues are often caused by bad cabling, in which case you (or a certified technician) would have to open your laptop's bezel and check the wiring for the screen.

Third possibility is ensuring your power options are set to NOT turn off the screen after any amount of time. Sometimes Windows doesn't recognize that something as simple as a movie is currently playing, so it tries to hibernate, and that causes the issue.

Best,
-Jon

I was watching movie. suddenly my laptop doesn't have sound anymore. what should I do now?

This could be something easy like an update to your sound board or something major like the speaker I would find out what sound card your laptop has and go to that site to see if there is a update this would be the fastest and cheapest way

Movie Files will not display on the TV.

Its quite possible your laptop has lost its association with your TV as a "secondy monitor".

To check this, minimise everything and right click on the desktop and go to Properties. Then navigate to the settings tab. This will show you how many displays it considers itself to have.

Click on number 2 (if visable) and click on extend my windows desktop to this monitor.

You should now be able to go between screens
