Question about Acer Aspire 3000 Notebook

1 Answer

Monitor settings Somehow the default monitor settings got changed. Now for any given application, most but not all of the page is displayed on the screen so I have to toggle left or right to see the full information on the page. THis also has the ffect of my not being able to use a projector for internet or powerpoint because only a portion of my wallpaper ends up being projected. Any suggestions?

It seems that the system was designed for a regular 1024x768 screen display, but they put a wider type actual screen on it. Either everything is slightly distorted if you use the correct setting to make it all fit the screen (ok if you are only using text and WYSIWYG is not important,) or you have to use a wider display setting which is oversize to the actual display but corrects for the distortion so pictures and videos display properly. If there is a better video driver software, I could not find it.

Hi swalle1, it sounds like you display settings have been changed, to fix this when your computer has finished starting right click a space on the desktop where there are no icons, then click on properties, a pop up will appear, at the top you will see tabs choose the Settings tab, now in the middle of the screen to the left you will a box on the called screen resolution with a slider, place your mouse on the slider and slide it the left till it says 1024x768 then click apply, now this may not be the setting you use as you may have a wide screen but this is default setting to get you started, you can slide that slider till you get the right setting back either to the right for higher resolution or the left lower.
I hope this helps but if it does please let me know.

How do i change the screen size on acer aspire 5610 windows vista?

you can go to control panel and find display setting, however your screen size somehow can be limited depends on manufacturer. the standard size somehow can be 1024x768 and below, if you cannot find it maybe the setting is limited to certain sizes. else, get a new monitor or LED TV.

Upside down screen

Go to your control panel and then the Mfr display panel configuration settings - Find and click on "Restore Defaults " or just change the rotation back to upright if you like the other changes you previously made.

Toshiba L10 display will not work.have pressedfn+f1 and fn+f5 but to no avail.

There are steps to 'change' the visual effects of the "Display." 1. Right click on "Desktop", click Personalize, click, Display Settings. 2. Identify, Monitor used? 3. Down (arrow) select Monitors' graphics. 4. Adjust, (low>high) resolution. 5. Select, Colors (16 bit>32bit), etc. 6. Click, Advanced Settings, click Properties ("check device status"). 7. Update Drivers (only if, necessary?). 8. Click on "List All Modes" select valid (modes) for the monitor. Note: Always click on the 'Apply', and 'OK' buttons after application changes for the process to take effect. 9. Restart "Computer". *Next go, to: Screen Saver, in the Screen Saver Settings change 'Power' settings. *Next go, to: Start Menu, click on Product Name: (Toshiba), click 'Utilities' click, Toshiba Assist, click 'Optimize' click, "Display"; change power on display. *Next go, to Control Panel, in Mobile PC, click; "Adjust commonly used mobility settings" (changes the following); Display brightness, and Connect Display. “I hope this Fix it!”

some display settings are not compatible with some monitors/lcd displays...
check before u make any changes to the display properties....
some changes done forcebly will permanently damage ur monitor beyond repair....
try to install the VGA driver software of the monitor/notebooks may not require andy drivers as OS would have installed it by default...
also dont make any changes to the refresh rates in the display properties as that also may damage ur monitor...
possible use the chekbox that says "Dont display frequency rates that are not compatible with the system"

I can log on using my password but then nothing happens -just a black screen - can do ctrl alt + delete and the options come up to do task manager etc but select anything and the scree is still black

Found this on the Dell support site.
  • "Function key combination — Can be used to select display
arrangement but these are best used to cycle through views after
    display settings are chosen
Press <Fn><F8> to select the desired display arrangement."
It sounds like the display has somehow been changed to display on "external monitor only.

Here is the link to your users guide where I found this info.

Flickering may b due 2 ur Display configurations so u may also use some Display software or u may manually correct it.

Properties>Settings>

1. adjust ur screen resolution

Change the refresh frequency for your monitor To change the refresh frequency for your monitor
  1. Open shortcutcold.gifDisplay in Control Panel.
  2. On the Settings tab, click Advanced.
  3. On the Monitor tab, in the Refresh Frequency list, click a new refresh rate.
note.gif Notes
  • To open Display, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  • The default refresh frequency setting is 100 Hertz, although your monitor may support a higher setting. Check your manufacturer's documentation for information regarding the settings your monitor supports.
  • A higher refresh frequency reduces any flicker on your screen, but choosing a setting that is too high for your monitor can make your display unusable and cause damage to your hardware.
  • Changes to the refresh frequency affect all users that log on to the computer.

Display area is "shrunken" on Dell Inspiron 4000 display

Go to Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advance - Monitor, set it to Default monitor and click OK.
Does the display now fill the screen?
If this doesn't work, go to the DELL WEB site and see if there a driver for the display. To ensure you get the correct driver for your model laptop, use the Service Tag number (which is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop) to the download page for your model laptop, download the correct Windows XP or Vista version of the driver from :-

Nothing happening

Hi,

When you start up the laptop, tap the F2 or F10 key like a piano in four four time and see if you do not get a bios setup screen, sometimes called a System Setup Screen. If you do post back to me as soon as you can and await my instructions, but basically you want to page through the setup screens until you find a setting for the external display default. Change this back to the laptop panel. It is probably set to an external display monitor or LCD panel.

On your keyboard are special keys you are probably familiar with. These are used in conjunction with the Fn key. To activate an external monitor and turn off your LCD display, you would press the Fn key + the F key that has an icon on it in the same color as the Fn keytop. The icon for the external monitor looks something like this |O| with the circle here being replaced by a rectangle. Often this is just replaced with two rectangles, one filled with shade one not. The F Key is almost always the F5 key.

To test this, start your computer, then press the Pause key. Then press the Fn key plus F5 or which ever key it was that you found with an icon as I attempted to desribe.

My guess this is what has happened, the alternate external display is activated and this needs to be changed. Sometimes you have to go into the System setup pages and tell the laptop you are on the Panel display by default and not the external monitor, otherwise you will have to press the Fn key sequence every time you boot.

Let me know how you make out.

Regards,
Worldvet
