Monitor won't turn on normally. Possible Inverter problem?
I have had an Acer AL1913W for a few years and when I first got it, I had
to send it to get the inverter fixed. It's worked fine since then.
few days ago I cleaned the monitor through the vents with a really
powerful jet of air (don't know it's the cause or a coincidence) and
now if I leave the monitor off for a few hours, it won't go back on. It
sort of stutters to go on and then goes black but I can still see the
image with a flash light. If I turn it off and on a few times, it will
eventually light up and will stay working. It seems it needs to warm up first. If I leave it on (with the black screen) for a minute or two and then turn it off and back on, it turns on immediately.
Could I have knocked
something loose inside with the air? Any ideas what to check inside to
see if something needs to be replaced or fixed?

Not likely that you knocked anything loose.
Keeping it clean is a good thing and helps stop overheating of parts.
Power should be unplugged when doing this. There is a slim chance if
using canned air that at times liquid (usually freon) will come out and
could cause a temporary short.
Ironic thing is: Overheating is what yours seems to be doing.
The capacitors on the powerboard or inverter are more than likely
starting to fail from heat and age and should be replaced before it
gets worse and eventually burns out a part that is harder to get and
harder to diagnose.

Ive had that problem recent, same monitor. Same months to be exact, though started around October 2010 then got worse. Do not send it back to Acer, I did and the cost was 20 bucks to ship to them and all I got was a note and monitor back saying they tested and then did Extended testing and found nothing. Not even had it for 1 year or 2 years to say, 3 year warranty. Just going to buy a new one and perhaps a LED from ASUS, the V stands for Value on Acer website, guess I got what I payed for. Think it was $166 I payed for this thing. It is shame, as its nice monitor but I cannot have it not trusty like this, cannot even play some games without it going off like this. Worst if I put the monitor in Graphics or Movie mode makes it worse it seems.

That looks like an inverter problem. If the monitor is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer (3 years for both parts and labor if purchased new). Otherwise, open up the back of the monitor and remove the shielding. Look for scorch marks, soot or leaking or bulging capacitors (look like cylinders on tripods). You could just replace the capacitors and the resistor that acted as a fuse. However, for $50-150, depending on the inverter, you can replace the entire part (unplug the wires for the backlight(s) and other connections and swap them). You can also check the inverter by looking for the high frequency EM put out by the unit. Some high end multimeters will measure this (as will an oscilliscope). Hold the multimeter probes a fraction of an inch apart about an inch above the board (with the multimeter set to read frequency). If the inverter is good (and the frequency is reasonably close to the multimeter's range) you will see either a 1 or a value (kHz). If the inverter is bad or too far out of range, you will see a result near zero.
Once you have the monitor open, record the part number on the board with the damage, including the REV number if any. Search that part online (lcdparts.net and other sites have parts for monitors). Get the correct unit if possible. Some sites sell universal inverters and those can be used. However, you may find the controls reversed (up to lower brightness).

I have a dual monitor system, both are the x223w. Same problem but only on the second monitor. Backlight shuts off.On/off light stays blue. I have to turn off the monitor and turn it back on. I returned it and Acer could not find any problem so I got it back. No problem for awhile and now a few times over the past couple days. Not good...
Include me in the people burnt (no pun intended) by crappy quality Acer monitors. Will never buy their stuff again. Ironically, this infrequently used external monitor burnt out overnight, just a few hours after I had actually checked out and decided to buy an Acer Windows 8 15.6" i5 laptop. Definitely not buying Acer again. Imran
It's turns blue to power safe mode (yellow) it's prevent futher damaged to your monitor. It's seems you got a busted backlight inverter. Need to replaced a new one...Since you only got it for a few months, send it back to Acer for a replacement of a new backlight inverter... Have a nice day!
Well...what you need it a new backlight inverter. Your old one it's busted. If you got less than a year... you've got 3 yrs warranty on parts. Contact Acer asked them to send you a new inverter... Have a nice day!
