Th42phd8wk panasonic monitor, green power light on (no blinking) but no pic at all, screen not lighting at all

I am a technician, but have not had experience with plasma units as I closed my repair business down a few years ago, this unit is mine and if I could get some help in terms of whether this is a common fault or not, or be pointed to the right direction I would appreciate it.

  • Phil Sciacca Oct 14, 2008

I did some checking around the supply and all seems well unless I missed a rail, I also input a video and audio signal, there is no audio output, so it seems that the fault is not anything to do with the screen or screen supply. I can only imagine there is a rail down supplying the processing section, does anyone have a schematic for the power supply? and maybe a block diagram for the set?

  • Phil Sciacca Oct 14, 2008

Thanks for your reply but no, there is no image at all, the screen is black, but also there is no audio.

  • Phil Sciacca Oct 14, 2008

If an IC has failed I would assume these units would not be board level repairs and the board would have to be replaced? and if that is the case are they factory set or would there be adjustments to be carried out on the new board?

Nio Charcois, the unit is not a projection set, I am familiar with those and am able to set the convergence, this is a plasma monitor Panasonic model th42phd8wk

Thanks Dan I will do that

Dan it seems that the 5v rail is down to 3.26v, I will have to obtain a curcuit of the processor circuitry to trace the 5v rail to the supply and check the processor clock, the processor itself is running cool so I don't believe it's dragging the voltage down, I also had a close look at the pcb's this one and the supply for dry joints as this set runs for 18hrs a day 7 days a week, if you are able to find anything in the meantime I appreciate it. Thank You.

The fault turned out to be two boards, the "D" Board and the "J" board, all is well now.
Thanks for those who tried to help. Phil

If you get nothing other than the green light, there is a fairly major fault. If the 5V line is good, look for the micro and see of the clock is running. This sounds like a logic fault that is not allowing anything to start up. I'll look up the model tonight and see if there are any common faults, but update this if you find anything with the clock.

Thanks,
Dan

With the voltage that low, the CPU won't work properly. Look for a defective filter cap on the 5V line. It is possible that the supply is being pulled down by a defective IC as well. Look for an op-amp chip in the audio section.

Its a common problem of proj. tv and it must be the convergence board of it cause the problem. i read many of tv problems and thats the number 1 problem of it. if your not so sure better to send it to technician to change or replace some parts of it. or use your warranty if it has.

If you can see a very faint image, then it could be the inverter that went bad. It drives the backlight.

    @phil

    they are factory set

and u would have to send them to the factory............. the IC wil re replaced and sent back to u

i guess it can not be a board problem otherwise one would certainly have found the fault.....

i would suggest u to send it to the factory or some other authorised service center

Hi.

This is an internal hardware problem and needs to be checked by a professional.
Take the monitor to a service station to get it checked.

I have a panasonic flat screen monitor that worked well untill recently. It switches on for a second with the green light on then it switches off and the red light starts blinking. Please advise.

Try disconnecting all of your HDMI cables and plugging the power cord of the TV into another wall outlet. If this resolves the issue, you may have had a small power surge from either your wall outlet or one of your source devices. It is recommended to connect your TV to a surge protector if you haven't done so already.

I have a Panasonic HDTV Projection Monitor. PT-50DL54J. When I turn it on, it flashes green on the power button, I can hear the fan, then it stops and flashes a red light 9 times forever. Any tips? Thanks

These blinks to standby light are fault indications. You can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it, by these blinks, called blinking codes. If you wish to know more about the blinking codes, http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ check this link. It has details about these blinking codes, to many brand TVs including many models of Panasonic. Pull up older posts there, either by its left side bar, or see it in Timslide option.

The power light keeps flashing and the tv won't turn on. If you unplug for a minute and hit the power button it sound like it is coming on then it shuts off and the red power light flashes slowly. The TV is a Panisonic 1080i HDTV, about 6-7 years old.

The Power Light is Red

yeah, should stay red when unit is turned off, indicating there's power but it's doing nothing.

Per user manual:
Solid red - power off (standby mode)
blinking red - power off (now cooling)
blinking green - power on (preparing to light lamp)
solid green - power on
