My wlan will not enable

Check that wireless service is running
XP: Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, then press Enter.
Scroll down to "Wireless Zero Configuration" and right click on it and select Properties. Set it to Automatic and not Disabled, and press the Start button, then click OK.
That should start the service.
7 (vista): Click Start, type services.msc, then press Enter.
Scroll down to "WLAN AutoConfig" and right click on it and select Properties. Set it to Automatic and not Disabled, and press the Start button, then click OK.
That should start the service.

To enable wireless adapter we need to go to device manager and enable it.
XP:
1. Right click on My Computer and click on properties.
2. Click on Hardware tab on system properties window.
3. Click on Device Manager
To go to device manager we need to click on the device manager button.
Now we can see all the hardware devices connected to the computer. To see the status of our wireless adapter click on network adapters.
4. Enable the Wireless adapter
To enable wireless adapter, right click on it and click on enable.
7 (vista):
  1. Open the Start Menu by clicking the Start button. Click on Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, click on Network and Internet.
  3. In the Network and Internet panel, click Network and Sharing Center.
  4. In the Network and Sharing Center, click "Manage network connections" in the Tasks list on the left side of the window.
  5. The Network Connections manager will open. Right-click the icon labeled Wireless Network Connection and click Enable on the menu displayed.

The last step checks if you have the wireless switch on or off. Locate the wireless button (in the middle, above the keyboard). Try to toggle it, see if is says anything.

Prospector60,

Hello and Thank You for visiting fixya.com

You might be experiencing a hardware issue but first have you tried the following steps?

1. Take out the battery
2. Unplug the unit from the power

Then plug back in the unit and try the switch again?

Have you check your bios to make sure the options for the adapter and switch are enabled.

Its rare but it could be a hardware issue with the switch. You might get creative and open up the laptop and unplug the wireless card from its slot then plug it back in. But be careful and do that at your own risk. If its under warranty have Asus look at it!

Thanks for using fixya.com I hope you find these Very Helpful!

HOW DO I TURN ON THE WIRELESS ON MY TOBISHA LAPTOP

If you're using a Toshiba laptop and you can't figure out how to enable WiFi you probably aren't alone. Thankfully there are several approaches you can take from a hardware and Windows Operating System stance to turn on your wireless connection while making sure you can properly connect to a wireless network.
Difficulty: Easy Instructions

    • 1 enable-wireless-toshiba-laptop-1.1-800x800.jpg

Look at the keyboard options on your laptop. You should see a button that looks like a small antenna. The button placement may vary from device to device. For instance, you may have a dedicated button or it may be placed much like the option circled in the picture to the left of this step.

    • 2

Click on the "Windows Start Button" and Navigate to "Control Panel" then click on "Network Connections" or "Network and Sharing" depending on your version of Windows.

    • 3

Right-click on your wireless connection icon once the "Network Connections" window opens. Choose "Enable" and left-click on that option with your mouse. Wait for the wireless connection to enable.

    • 4

Alternatively you can try clicking on the " Windows Start Button" and then clicking on "Connect to," where you will click on "Show all connections." When the connection window opens up, you should right-click on "Wireless Network Connection" and then choose "Enable." Now right-click on "Wireless network connections" and then choose "View Available Wireless Networks" to see if your WiFi adapter is enabled.

Hope this was helpfull

How to turn on my wireless

Firstly look for a hardware switch on the side or font of the laptop. sometimes its a touch pad style button on top of the keypad area. look for that wireless icon. For the soft switch use these keys in combination below then make sure your wireless in the control panel >> network connections is enabled. Then try again. 4d72d29.jpg in review,1. Softswitch FN+F2 verify its on. 2. look for a physical switch with the same wireless symbol as F2 ,most laptops have one. 3. Make sure wireless adaper is enabled in the control panel.>> nework connection >>manage adapters. 4. Search for networks and viola! hope that helps

Can not enable wireless

Usually if there is a problem with the hardware it shows up wth a differant error. Usually disabled means it is switched off or you have the cable plugged in.

On a laptop we have the often annoying option of switching the wireless off to save the battery. On your model the off/on switch or button is located just above the keyboard. There should be three buttons near the bottom of the screen. The left most button is the one we want. Just push it and your wifi should start if this is how it was turned off.

If it doesn't then we may need to check the network connections window. moz-screenshot.png moz-screenshot-1.pngHere we can make sure it is enabled. Unplug the cable connection if its plugged in. Some drivers will auto switch to the faster speed ie the cable while others go to the wireless. Unplugging it forces it to try the wireless.

Click on start then look for something called network connection along the right side. If it is there then click on it and it will bring up a window called network connections. You may have to go to settings then control panel and network connections which is the other way of getting here.

This should show 3 things. A cable connection ie something like Broadcom 10/100, your wireless connection called something like Athero's and usually something called 1394 which is Firewire. Right click on the wireless one and if it says ENABLE click that and your wireless should startup.
