Hello:
I received my binoculars from Apogee. They look impressive. But here in
Ohio it is rarely clear. I hate Ohio weather! Just wanted to know what
some of you that have these feel. Thanks for your response. Steve

Hello:
No, they're not on their site. I called them and ordered them. Just used
them this morning on Venus. Was able to see Venus quite well. The total
cost was 316 dollars which included shipping. Steve Their website is

Eugene,

They are plenty strong since the tripod mount is the same as the 20x80
Oberwerk Deluxe but made of steel instead of aluminum.

At night they perform just like a 100mm short tube Synta scope except you have
one for each eye. I have a 120mm F5 Orion refractor and they have almost the
same image at 25x (24mm UWA) except 70* vs 80* AFOV . The eyepieces perform
like low cost 20mm SWA 70* AFOV ones you might get from Siebert but since you
are getting two 100mm refractors with BAK4 prism's and two SWA eyepieces for
$300 it's a steal. I was just looking at the moon tonight before the clouds
closed in and the false color is about the same as any other short tube 4"
achromatic refractor. The Pleiades (m45) look fantastic with the 25x100's.
The Unistar Light mount I have on order looks like a good mount for it.

Eugene:
I have yet to be able to use mine at night. The skies here in Ohio are
constantly cloudy. I wish my father had moved when I was young. Now being
50+ I am too entrenched in Ohio with family and job. I'm really anxious to
try these out. A buddy of mine has a pair of 20 x 80's and they really are
fantastic. The views of the Andromeda galaxy and the Double Cluster in
Perseus were gorgeous. I hope I'm not disappointed with these. But for the
price they are hard to beat. I have 49 kids in my astronomy club at my
school. These would be a wonderful addition along with a 16", 10", 8", 8",
4.7", and a 3.6" telescopes. When you get yours, please post what your
findings are. I, too, will post when I get to use them.

Joe and Steve,
I ordered a pair last week, was told they wouldn't be shipped until
Jan or Feb. which gives me time to start work on a parallelogram mount
strong enough to handle ten pounds. Do these have a reinforced
mounting strut for tripods or paramounts? Hard to believe the
standard 1/4x20 threaded socket at the pivot would be strong enough to
handle these. Have you had a chance to use them at night yet? How is
the coma and how sharp is the image towards the edges? I appreciate
any comments that you might have, good or bad. Thanks and clear
skies.

Hello again:
Thanks for the response. I'm currently going to use my mount for the
Astroview 120. It holds the binoculars quite well, and it's kind of nice
with the slow motion controls. Again, I hope to have some clear skies over
the Christmas holiday. It would be great with the waning moon. Steve

Hi Steve,

I just received mine thursday and tested them during the day and they had more
false color on bright objects than my 20x80 Oberwerk Deluxe but no more than I
expected from short FL 100mm Achromatic objectives. I also checked out
M45,M42,Saturn,Jupiter the moon etc and they beat the 20x80's with no problem.
The FOV looks to be around 2.5* for the 25x100's compared to 3.5* with the
20x100's .
But for the price they are the best buy in high powered 100mm binoculars. They
might replace my Pentax PF-80ED 80mm f6.3 ED as a quick setup travel scope in
some cases. I have the Universal Astronomics Light alt/az mount on order to be
used with a HD wood surveyor tripod. For now I am using my 3040 Bogen tripod
but they are a royal pain with the 10lb 25x100's. The eye relief is around 15mm
and the AFOV looks to be around 70*. But since you already have them all you
need to enjoy them is clear dark skies and a good mount.

Clear Skies,
Joe Ogiba
