connect to tomtom home. check if any updates available. install if any available. start the unit, when turned on completely press and hold the reset button for atleast 8 secs and then go outside under the open skies and see what happens.
I had the same problem with a 750.
I cured it (accidentally I must add) by inserting a memory card.
I guess the last time I connected and disconnected the 750 it had a memory card in and without one inserted it would not recognise the device.
Strange reason but worked for me.
this is not a fault of yours but with tom tom, as long as you've got a valid subscription then you're ok,
it's a problem that happens at their end and they usually give it high priority, try again tomorrow,if still no good then phone tom tom on 08451610009
