Onkyo TX-DS575X, remote intermittend malfunction

Hi,
On my TX-DS575X is the following problem:
Most of the times the remote is not working (Yes, I pressed audio button first). Sometimes when it works, I can switch the instrument on and after approx 5 minutes it does not respond anymore to the remote. Everything else works fine.
I opened the reciever and cleaned the IR eye, no solution.
I bought another TX-DS575 (without the X) and my own/first remote works fine on this one(so the remote is not the problem) Also the remote of the DS575 is not working on the DS575X

I replaced the IR unit on the receiver with p/n RPM-H4R-ND from Digi-Key $1.40 . remote now works fine. I don't know for sure but suspect that leaving the unit in the "stand-by" mode for long (weeks) periods caused early part failure.

Is it difficult to replace the IR unit? You remove the screws on the front cover, remove the front cover and the simply remove and replace the part or is it more complicated than this (any soldering required)?

My remote is fine, but i don't know which button to push or sequence once I've changed batteries to for it to work the receiver. Each time I change the batteries it doesn't interact with the receiver, but...

Hi there,

It's likely that you've pressed one of the input mode buttons accidentally while changing the batteries. You've probably switched the remote for operation of a TV or DVD player or some other device.

To correct this problem, simply press the RECEIVER (TAPE/AMP) button once, then try the remote again. Pressing this button informs the remote that you wish to operate the receiver with it again. The RECEIVER button is about halfway down the left-hand side, above the TV button and below MACRO 1.

Please try this first. If the receiver still does not respond, switch the receiver off and back on again. It may have lost the communication with the remote. Resetting the receiver will usually correct this problem.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric.
