Question about Dell 1600n All-In-One Laser Printer

Dell 1600n Display panel freezes soon after power up

Recently our Dell 1600n MFP developed a problem where the whole printer just freezes. You cant do anything on the Display Panel to find out what the problem is. All you can do is power cycle it. But then it freezes again. Is this the Controller Board or something else. the printer is approx 4 - 5 years old and is constantly in use.

Please help
Adam.

My 1600n also freezes after startup???

Printer will print one page in all modes: from network connection, USB connection, or copy, then hang up. I can't find any error information about the issue. I have pulled and reconnected all connectors I can get at. The date reverts back to the origen date, so the battery must be bad. Can this affect the ability to print?

I have the same problem. At first I could clear the problem by turning it off and restarting but now it freezes up as soon as it completes the start-up cycle and before you can print anything or do any diagnostics.

It is definately a problem with the startup cycle circut but will need testing to determine the exact cause , it old enough that they may have stopped making parts for it though

If you need to make copies from glass then cover top with a 11X17 paperthis will insure the ink is not wasted copying a darker lid.

if the problem is with the paper from tray, suspect the rubber tires on the pick rollers are bad. You can remove them and flip them inside out and reinstall

Prints faint copies

If the print rubs off the page, this means the toner is not being fused to the page. Fused......this is done by the fuser. This would have nothing to do with light print.

The dell (1600n and 1815n /1815dn) printer drivers has a toner saver mode, which can contribute to light print.

To turn Toner Save Mode off, (Windows XP) perform the following steps:
  1. Click the Start button, click Settings, and then click Printer and Faxes.
The Printers and Faxes window appears.
  2. Right-click Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn, and left-click Printing Preferences.
The Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn Printing Preferences window appears.
  3. Click the Advanced button.
The Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn Advanced Options window appears.
  4. Click to highlight Toner Save.
  5. Click the drop-down list and change it to Off and click OK.
  6. Click OK.
One thing that you mentioned in your post "it takes the printer forever to warm up". The fuser does have to reach operational temperature in order for it to fuse the toner to the page. So it is possible that you are having fuser problems, because of the time it is taking for it to warm up. Another thing that can contribute to the warm up time is not plugging the laser printer directly into a wall outlet. This would be true for any laser printer, not just a Dell laser printer. The low voltage power supply is what works the fuser, along with sensors and other motors in the printer.

Replacing the fuser and or the low voltage power supply in this model of printer is not an easy task. If using a Dell branded toner cartridge and checking the toner saver mode does not fix the issue. Then you would be looking at more expense then the machine would possibly be worth.

1600n Printing an Extra Page everytime...

I had a computer experiencing the same problem.
I found under the printer properties that there was 2 drivers listed; both say "Dell Laser MFP 1600n PCL 6"
I swtiched the settings from one to the other.
The Printing Preferences also show more options.

  • Open the Printer(Control Panel->Printers>Dell MFP 1600n)
  • On the menu at the top click Printer->Properties
  • Click the tab at the top Labeled Advanced
  • Change the driver and Click Apply
This should fix your problem.
