Question about Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console

Black Screen on PSP Slim

I just received a psp 2001 purchased on ebay. When I first turned it on, it seemed fine, and I was able to put the most recent date on it after turining it on the first time. However, when I put a charger on it (that came with it), and then turned it on, I got a blank screen. I put a UMD game and memory stick in the PSP, and could hear the PSP start up sound, and then I was able to make out a very faint picture of the UMD game, and it appears to be working - only I don't see the lit screen. Is there a way to reset the psp? I took out the battery and reinserted it, to no avail.

Unfortunately, it didn't work. I took out the battery for a couple of minutes, then put it back in. I also held down the rectangular button next to the music button for over 10 seconds. I tried to step the button up. Nothing seems to work. I know the PSP is functioning; just no display. Thanks anyway. I guess I will have to send it back.

Hi,

Take out the battery of your PSP, wait 30 seconds and then reinsert it. Then start the PSP up without the charger in it. If the problem still occurs, try holding the brightness button (rectangle icon near select button) for 10 seconds. I hope this works for you.

When switched on the screen has suddenly developed the appearance of a torn page i.e. the screen looks as if it is torn in half with black , purplish gash ?

Uh oh. Did you sit on it or something? The LCD is cracked. I don't know if sony will cover that under the warranty.. Replace the screen; all it takes is steady hands and a set of electronics screwdrivers. The screen will run you about $25.00. Look up how to do it on youtube. Heres some links to screens:
