Question about XFX GeForce FX 5500 Graphic Card

2 Answers

I don't what the problem is.

Here is my specs:
OS: Windows XP
Processor: Intel P4 2.66Ghz
RAM: 1.5 gb
Video card: Nvidia fx5500 256mb
My previous video card was fx 5200 128mb and my ram was only 512mb. warcraft III ran perfectly. but after sometime, the game freezed so we thought that the problem is the video card and ram. so we decided to buy fx 5500 256 mb and upgrade our ram to 1.5gb but freezes continues. when i try to update it to latest driver, the problem goes bigger. even without playing my computer hangs. how can i know if the video card is really the problem or maybe the motherboard itself or the powersupply are the ones having problems?

Firstly have you considered it is the game? try restalling

If that doesnt work, it is most likely your video card. dxdiag into run and click all the run test buttons you can see.
Update video drivers and try installing to a different pci slot.

It may be the video cards ram instead of your pcs ram.
but check the pcs ram is compatible.

The GeForce FX5500 is an AGP Card (which is WAY outdated). Your board has a PCI-Express x16 slot (which is a good thing) so if you are planning to play games in the ilk of the NFS series, you can get an nVidia GT, GTS or GTX series card (I only assume you plan to get an nVidia-branded card; you still have options of purchasing ATI 4000- to 5000-series cards as well). these cards serve the purpose of entry-level to mid-range games. The only limitation of your rig would be the processor since it's a single core; but with 3 GHz & 2GB of RAM, you can play almost the entire NFS series up to Undercover, Shift & World. I'm not sure about Shift 2 & The Run: I think they require 2 cores at least.

1 GB of ram? Check the software for minimum PC system requirements. It will say how many MHz is necessary to play the game.It will also give you what video card (min),RAM(min),DirectX (7 or Higher?) this game requires MINIMUM to run.Quite often the game will run,but poorly.Your AMD 2200 runs at 1800 which isn't lightening fast, but sufficient.I think the addition of at least 1 more GB of RAM is what you need,a total of 3GB would really make the computer happy when playing games.
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Run this program from Microsoft to test your current memory for errors.
My computer is much like yours,I have XP Media-The 8600 card,a dual core 2.8 processor and 3GB of RAM.This setup will run a online racing game without hick ups at 1152 x 864 resolution. When I only had 1GB of RAM it would stutter like it was constantly trying to load the program,so I added another Gig and it started playing allot better. It couldn't keep up with Halo online until I added another 1GB for a total of 3GB.I am using a 32x version of XP,going to a 64x setup would improve performance even more.
Sorry,I'm talking too much.Try the RAM after you test what you have, you'll be glad you did!

Cost of game hardware in india

2GB RAM should be about $100, the same for installation. Your current graphics card meets the specs you provided. An upgraded video card will be about $200 for one that will work, $300 for one that will work well.
