I just changed my spark plugs, my wires and even the rotor and my truck is running way better!! but how can i get more gas mileage and better performance from my truck

Try putting some of that fuel injector cleaner in your gas tank next time you fill up...and if you really want better mileage i have a 97 tahoe also and i put an airade cold air intake on it and its like night and day difference with mileage as long as you dont pound the petal...if you do decide to go fast it gives you like 10hp gain too and it'll take off a lot faster and sound sportier.

No spark

check to see that the distributor shaft turns while cranking the engine
check to see that the pos terminal on the coil has power while cranking the engine, not just with ignition on, a common problem with ignition switches
check to see that the coil body is well grounded by the metal strap that goes under it and out to the module plug
check that there is low resistance through the pickup coil under the advance plate that the rotor is bolted to
check that the ignition module is working
check to see that the high output carbon electrode in center of the cap is not burned
check that the rotor spring like contact is not worn, burned, or loose from the brass or aluminum firing point
check to see that the distributor body is properly grounded
you distributor should fire connecting only a positive lead and a ground even if your holding it in your hand and spinning the shaft by hand
if you have a four wire ECU or ECC (engine control module or engine control computer) control plug coming out from the ICM, try to disconnect it, if the engine runs, you have a bad ICM (ignition control module)

It could be one or both of the items you discussed. In addition, did you change the rotor when you changed the cap. If the cylinders have individual coils the coil could be weak as well.

Does black smoke come out of the exhaust pipe when you floor it? Is so, it is running rich. Make sure fuel pressure is with in limits. A bad regulator may permit too much pressure. Also check the MAP sensor. Make sure it is getting vacuum.

Weak spark at plug

Check to see haw strong the spark is coming out the dist cap. If it is weak there, possible bad cap/rotor/coil/ module. Make sure the wire from the coil to the cap is good.

97 chevy 1500 4x4 4.3 wont start when wet have changed cap rotor plug wires plugs. veh has spark and fuel!

I have the same problem with my 1998 chevy 1/2 ton, if the weather is damp we have to plug it in, give it an hour and away it goes, have had it to a shop several times and still no solution. we have also changed cap, plugs plug wires

1997 chevy tahoe misfiring 5 and7.

Check your FUEL INJECTOR HOUSING. The old style factory housing most likely has an internal crack. OLD style has the INJECTORS AT THE HOUSING with tubes running fuel to the engine. NEW housing has wires running to the INJECTORS AT THE ENGINE. If you have the OLD style then it is probably (99%) cracked. This will cause fuel to be sprayed into neighboring cylinders causing a firing problem. This crack IS NOT visible because it is internal. After exhausting all the regular solutions to your misfire with no success, you will probably try to replace the individual injector (like I did....cost approx. $300) and you will still have the misfire. To replace the entire housing with injectors will cost around $400. Good Luck.....on other forums, I've seen people replace anything and everything (including engines) and still had problems with the misfire.
