Your computer was designed for Windows 98 not XP, XP needs at least 256 MBs of memory to run even near efficiency and your model of computer originally came with 96 MBs as witnessed by the company website here
While it is possible to get XP to run on your machine you are trading off a lot of wait time watching it slowly run with the limited amount of memory as originally placed in the computer by manufacturer. The RAM on the computer can be upgraded to 256 MBs according to company website which should cure your problem at least in the case of most of applications, but NOT all.
Present day ( modern RAM ) cannot be used on your system, and finding it locally may be difficult unless you have some variety of computer stores in your locale. You will need SDram. Recommend you make a print out of the page I referred you to and starting making phone calls or shopping on the web.
It doesn't hurt to pay a little bit more for this SDram as you want to be sure you have a good return policy just in case. Most technicians will not charge you extra to install the memory themselves if you buy at their local store.
