Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop

Dell dimension5150 won't startup


My dell dimension won't start up. After i switch it on, there's this blue screen came up saying that i have problem with gdi32.dll and installing it will settle the problem. I've downloaded the gdi32.dll file from the internet using another computer and saved it to a pendrive BUT how do i install it to my dell if the dell can't start up?

    Hiya mrbrown0603. Thanks a lot for the solution. I didn't do exactly like u said. What i did is that i just reformat my dell dimension 5150 with xp and install back all the drivers. So, it can be considered fix lol... By the way, now i got another problem with another dell dimension E520. I want to reformat it but same thing happen - the blue screen! A problem has been detected and windows... an attempt was made to execute non-executable memory. ... stop: 0x000000fc (0xf9a0f8e8, 0x01ff0963, 0xf9a0f848, 0x00000001) I 'm sure i can reformat it BUT i need to back up the data from the harddisk first. How am i suppose to do it? I think the harddisk is corrupt. Got any ideas..?

The solution is to restore the GDI32.dll from the service pack into Windows system folder with the following steps:

  1. Boot from your Windows CD
  2. At Welcome to Setup screen, press “R” to start repair option and open up a Recovery Console’s command prompt window.
  3. Select the Windows installation to use, normally is C:\Windows and just one option. If so, press “1′ and hit Enter.
  4. If prompted for administrator password, enter the password (normally blank) and hit Enter.
  5. Make a backup of existing GDI32.dll in system folder with following command: REN C:\Windows\System32\GDI32.dll C:\Windows\System32\GDI32.dll.orig (take note of spaces)

  6. Replace “C” of the drive letter of your Windows installation drive if necessary.
  7. Then copy backup GDI32.dll from c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\gdi32.dll to the system folder with the following commands: copy C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\GDI32.dll C:\Windows\System32\GDI32.dll (take note of spaces)
  8. Restart computer.
This should Fix the problem.

    Can you still boot your computer up in safe mode?

    What's your processor?

    Do you remember what happened last time the computer was working?

First of all you have to identify the blue screen error code. Blue screen errors normally occurs due to infected windows files. You need to scan PC to remove malwares, junk and virus.
Also update the drivers that control your PC.

this error usually is for hard drive issue. if an operating system reinstallation wont work, a hard drive replacement should resolve this problem.

Blue Screen Error Message


Looks like you've been getting two different Stop errors...

The 1st error, 0X00000024, aka Stop 0x24, is a Windows 2000 error. (XP is just an updated version of 2000) Microsoft gives an explanation here.

You can either try to reset the BIOS, or have the restore cd fix it for you. By the way, what does the message say?

Get the blue screen


If your Dell was built after 6/04, you have a recovery partition. Press Ctrl+F11 on startup to restore the system to the way it was when delivered.
