overpowered definitely. when you bridge subs your almost doubling the power. if the subs were set for 2000 then the guy he took them too should have known better or at least turned the power down on the amp.
It sounds like you may have the IDE cables hooked up backwards on your motherboard.. The IDE cable slot on the motherboard labled IDE1 should be where your Hard drives are if you want them to read as primary. The Optical drives are usually on IDE2, designating them as secondary.

to slave a hard disk, first you must set its jumper setting to slave because if you dont set it, your system will be on chaos because the system will be confuse who will be its master harddisk. so after setting it, power on and check at its BIOS if your new hard disk is registered to the system.
