Question about 2wire 2700HG-B Router (2700HGB)

2Wire 2701hg-b dsl modem

The modem randomly switches off my ethernet and the wireless light turns on. Then, after 30 seconds or so, it switches back. Meanwhile, all my connections drop on the ethernet side. What's up? I'd like to be able to keep all connections active, I have no idea what is going on with it. I've upped the power to 10 and the channel to 10 and it continues to happen. THoughts?

It is secured. Each time I check, the configuration is the same. The way I set it up. It happens every 10 minutes or so. It began right out of the box. I wanted the convenience of a DSL modem and router in one. So far, it's been nothing but trouble. I have SSID disabled, so I do not broadcast. I also have Wireless security enabled, with standard passkey, so unless someone broke into my house to check the number....no one can get the key. So, now what?

Have you verified the unit is secured. It sounds like someone is hijacking the unit and resetting the configuration.

Please post the configuration here and I will tell you what is going on. DO NOT SEND ME YOU USERNAME OR PASSWORD, as well as any DMZ information you may have setup.

Ok, when you set this up you needed to install the ethernet client.

The 2Wire Wireless Ethernet Client is intended for customers to wirelessly connect devices to their home network that do not support traditional wireless adaptors (such as USB, PCI, and PCMCIA).

This device must be configured on a Windows-based PC via Ethernet, then it can be moved to any device with an Ethernet connection. These can include a gaming system (PS2/Xbox) or Macintosh computer. The device will automatically be configured with a DHCP IP address from the HomePortal, when the HomePortal is properly configured.

    Installation/Configuration Instructions

    1. Insert the Wireless Ethernet Client setup disk into the computer. The Setup Wizard will start automatically. If the disk does not autoplay, simply browse to the CD drive and run the “2WireWECCfg.exe” file on the root level of the disc.
    2. Once the Setup Wizard has started, make sure the Wireless Client is plugged in and that there is an Ethernet connection to the PC.
    3. The Setup Wizard will detect the Wireless Client and display the device details (if it has previously been configured). Click Next to continue with the configuration.
    4. The Setup Wizard will then prompt you to enter the HomePortal’s serial number and WEP key. Enter this information where indicated and click Next.
    5. The Setup Wizard will finish. Click OK to close the wizard. The Wireless Client is now able to connect to the HomePortal via the wireless network. The Client can now be disconnected from this PC, and reconnected to a gaming system, Mac, or any other Ethernet-equipped device.

For advanced device configuration, you must access it via the IP address as assigned by the HomePortal.

    1. Open an Internet Explorer window and browse to the HomePortal’s main user interface page, then click onto the Home Network link.
    2. The Wireless Client will be shown with the DHCP hostname “2WIRE_WEC_XX” (the last two digits are the last two MAC address digits). Click on View Device Details.
    3. Make a note of the IP address of the Wireless Ethernet Client, and browse to that IP address in Internet Explorer.
    4. You will now be prompted for a password. The default password for all devices is “wireless.”
    5. The Management page of the Wireless Ethernet Client will now be displayed. The page is modeled after the MDC in the HomePortal.
    6. The Wireless Settings link will display the configuration of the wireless link for SSID, channel, and WEP Key.
    7. The IP Settings link allows you to set the unit for DHCP or to manually configure the unit’s IP address. The DHCP Host Name can also be changed in this menu.
    8. The Advanced Settings page displays the settings for Access Point and Wireless Ethernet Client (the default). The lower two settings are for changes to the unit when in Access Point mode. USE OF THE WIRELESS CLIENT AS AN ACCESS POINT IS NOT RECOMMENDED OR SUPPORTED.
    9. Use the Password page to reset the login password for the Management Page.
    10. The Detailed Log page displays a log of the unit’s activity, like wireless connections and DHCP communications. Output to a syslog server can also be configured here

I have an at&t 2wire 2701hg-b but i dont have at&t internet i have charter and i am not able to figure out how to get my internet to work with this router please help

att 2 wire is a Adsl Modem (Requires a telephone line jack to get the signals) but charter communication is a cable internet service (not DSL) , Requires a TV cable service for internet .
These two jacks differs and there working differs ..
Means : Att works with the username and password type of authentication but charter requires the MAC address of modem for authentication .
Therefore for a cable internet 2wire 2701hg-b modem cant be used . But yes in case charters has username and password authentication and works with the telephone jack in house then its possible to use the same modem.

I want use my 2wire (2701HG-B) Wireless Router without the dsl line

Modem and routers are considered only as access point you computer may be able to connect to your router but if you dont have a DSL line you will not be able to go on line... if you dont want a DSL line there are service that concentrates on wireless alone... in this DSL line are not required nor router but may provide you a USB wireless adapter that has their wireless service then again try calling an Internet Service provider for this options...
thanks... Roger

Ehternet light is out (amber), Power, wireless, DSL and internet light on (green). Desktop is wired to the 2wire. Wireless is working.

H there,

Try replacing the ethernet cable, If it does not work try reinstalling the drivers of your NIC card or LAN card. If it still does not work your NIC or LA card is busted.

that is typically a bad username in the modem, you will have to put there temp user name in for registration for the DSL. and after that you can put the username into the modem that you created during the registration process. Should be taken care of.

Have SBCglobal with 2wire but want N wireless capability

Follow the dots -

2 wire DSL wire to back of DSL modem.

Ethernet cable out of DSL modem, to current router (if you have one).

Ethernet cable out of current router (if you have one) to new Wireless N router.

If you currently have a wireless G router, keep it, or, use the new Wireless G/N router alone. You will need to set up all security settings again if you remove your current router, and if the new router is N only, you will need to make sure all your wireless connecting computers have wireless N cards in them.

Ethernet Light

the wireless light should flicker indicating it is sending a wireless signal out to a reciever.

If you have security for the wireless router so nobody else can connect without permission enable it or turn off the wireless signal if not using it.

2wire Wireless router not working w/Comcast cable modem

Its almost impossible to connect a 2wire DSL router with a Cable modem. They dont go hand in hand.
Although you can connect the outgoing ethernet wire from the modem in the last ethernet plug on the back of the router and then have the ethernet connections coming from the router. But not wireless. and if you find a way, contact me at jneal2k9@hotmail.com
