Question about Zenith D52WLCD Television

1 Answer

I have a Zenith z52sz80 dlp lcd with a flashing green power light

I have inherited this unit from my inlaws-The tv stopped working after a storm along with several other electronics so I suspect a possible surge issue. There is no obvious damage to electronic internals. The lamp light was also illuminated so I purchased a new lamp and re[laced it but still get no lamp power up. cooling fan fires up and lamp indicator is now extinguished-BUT the green power light just sits there and flashes. Any ideas?I have 335 volts dc being sent to lamp ballast board but do not know what the smaller 3 pin connector is for. Ballast p/n is 9137 008 11027> Does anyone have any ideas about this or fixed one? I am an aircraft electrician so I am fluent with avionics but not new DLP technology or access to parts and schematics. Any help or ideas appreciated...Thanks Joe

Make sure you re-set your lamp, ( if you haven't already ), also...make sure you have closed the cover completely. There is a sensor on the side, that will make your light flash green, and not power up, if the cover isn't completely closed.

When I turn the machine on I hear the machine on see a the screen light up for approx. 1/2 minute then the machine shuts down all on its own.

It could be one of several issues.
1st: Have you tried plugging into a different outlet on a different circuit breaker?
2nd: Have you tried a different power cord?
3rd. Has there been any power surge/storm before the issue manifested itself?
4th: Does the fuser feel warm at all?
If all the above have been done and you're confident those have been answered properly, then we go to the next possible cause:
I suspect there might have been some sort of damage to the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) board. Not a cheap fix!

Wall ac in off position plug in surge protector blows instantly

It may be possible the it has fried the surge protected internally causing it to short out or blow when plugging in. I would try using another surge protected if you have one or if possible replace the cord going to the unit with a new one and see what happens. Also possible that the outlet your using went bad during the storm as well. Don't know 100% but should be a couple tips to help get you going.

You may have blown the fuse. From now on, please keep all electronics on a power surge protector.

We just had a lightning storm come through which knocked out the power. Once the power came on we tried turning on our sanyo LCD 24k40 tv it wouldn't come on. How do we fix it

I've checked on line for a schematic of this TV but was unsuccessful but I suspect it is one of two problems.
1) A fuse inside the TV was blown from a power surge caused by the storm. If you can locate it pull it out and look to see if it looks blackened (even a little) or if the wire inside is broken. This would indicate the fuse did it's job and stopped the power from burning out the whole TV. All of these fuses are available at your local electronics store or Radio Shack if you have one nearby.
2) The power supply on the TV was hit by the surge and burned out. There is no simple solution to this problem as the power supply would need to be replaced and the only way to do this is to hire a qualified TV repair service. If you happen to be good at soldering and understand electronics you could do this yourself after buying the power supply on line. I checked online and the part is about $60-70 USD.
There is a possibility that the power surge could have fried one of the circuit boards and if that's the case then you would have to weigh how much you want to pay to repair the unit after having a repair service estimate the work. I feel pretty strongly that you have one of the other two issues I listed since you didn't mention any other items in your home that were damaged at the same time. If there were more items then I would suspect the power surge would have been much more massive and likely caused considerable damage but since not then the damage would be minor leading to my previous conclusion.

We had lighnting storm pass by and our TV was plugged into a surge protector along with many other devices. When the storm passed the TV will not turn on anymore.

Likely, the surge protector failed.

Depending on the manufacturer, you may have some sort of warranty available. That is, the manufacturer of the surge protector may reimburse you for the cost of TV repairs.
But foremost, try plugging the TV directly into the wall. It could be that the socket or surge protector were fried, but your TV is ok.
