Magnets and projection screens do not mix well. When you say `busted up` it could mean a few things.

If it means blotches of color on the screen
-Caused when your projection TV becomes magnetized.
Fix:
-Use a strong magnetic coil and make circular motions around your projection TV screen starting on the upper left corner.
-Increase the size of the circles you're making until you've covered the entire screen. Slowly move away from the screen; continuing to make circular motions with the magnet.
-When the magnet loses contact, the color blotches should be gone.

hope this helps

Picture tube

yap! for CRT TVs with ring of colors, do the following to solve the problem; find a normal magnet from a retired speaker , just switch on the TV and while the TV is On, hold the magnet about 15CM from the screen while moving it arround the whole screen area. when it starts to degause/to be clear just move the magnet around the screen while moving further away from the TV screen let say 20CM, 25CM , 35 cm etc.

To fix this, you need to do something called degaussing. You should keep magnets away from the screen in the future, because they cause this problem.
The first thing to try is to turn it on and off, making sure that all magnets and speakers (which have magnets in them) are kept far away from it. This will activate the monitor's auto-degausser if it has one. If this does not help, this guide: http://www.wikihow.com/Degauss-a-Computer-Monitor gives a couple solutions, including using a soldering gun (not a soldering iron), illustrated in the video below:
With a powerdrill:

Or investing about 60 bucks in a degaussing coil like this which is a guaranteed fix:
One other trick that might work is to take an old CRT monitor ("fat-screen" rather than "flat-screen"), hold it up to the tv screen to screen, and turn it on and off to have the monitor use its own degausser. The monitor may have a button to activate degaussing, or it may be in the menu you can bring up with the buttons on the bottom of the screen.
If you don't want to deal with any of this, a tv repair shop will degauss your tv for you quickly.

Rainbow screen aiwa tv,, screen shows different colors like rainbow// brushing a magnet infront of the screen fixes the issue temporary

Picture tube is magnetized. Manual degausing is required. already you have done this.

Since you say it is reappearing, you have to check the following.

1. Relocate the TV or relocate if you have placed any tower speakers
or home theater speakers close-by.

2. Check whether auto degauss functioning OK. In the MENU
check whether you switched off auto degauss option. If it is OFF
enable it to ON.

3. Finally re orient the direction of your TV and watch the rainbow
effect. Switch OFF TV, wait for 20 mts, and again switch ON.
Repeat the process. It should disappear.

Magnetic toys or any other devises using magnet will cause this problem.

Fix a color problem

What you want to do is degauss the tube.
I do not believe a supplier will sell a CRT to anyone thats not a TV Tech. Safety/liability issues. The CRT is vacuum sealed and will implode if broken and the tv has 25000 volts even after unplugged for several days !!!
A CRT may cost as much as a new tv.

Several methods some people have found useful are;

Soldering Gun Method (NOT soldering iron)

1. Hold the soldering gun to that the rear of the case is toward the screen (the tip is facing away from the screen at a 90 degree angle) A magnetic field is generated by the transformer in the handle.
2. Place the gun in the center of the screen and turn it on, keeping it near but not touching the screen (to prevent scratching)
3. Slowly move it to the top edge (or any edge), then slowly around the outer part of the screen (but still in front of the glass) until you return to the top (or the edge you moved out to), again slowly return the gun to the center of the screen.
4. Keeping the gun on, slowly pull it straight away from the crt until there is no more distortion visible (usually 3-4 feet), then turn the gun off.

Rigged Drill Method ( parts can fly off so take care)

1. Get a magnet and tape it to the end of a high RPM drill and make sure it is held in place very tightly, use Duct or packing tape
2. Hold the rigged drill next to the spot to be fixed, make sure it is about 1-2 inches away from the screen
3. Now pull the trigger an you'll see the screen blur fast, this is normal so do not worry
4. Whilst the drill is running, slowly pull away from the screen and you may see it is fixed
5. This process may need to be repeated due to magnet strength and drill speed but it will work
6. Due to physics the fast, random turning of the magnet/s will fix the screen's colors

Loss of color after lightning storm

In tradition televisions, each color has its own gun, convergence and control circuit. One or more of these are most likely bad. Repairs on standard CRT TVs nowadays are usually cost prohibitive.

Purple hue on bottom of screen

You may have placed something with magnets near the bottom of the TV screen. Magnets will distort the electron beam in their vicinity. Move whatever you have there!
"de- gaussing" is the process of de- magnetising the shadow mask in the tube, it occurs automatically at switchon.
If removing magnets/ relocating TV / switching on and off does not fix the problem, it's time for professional intervention.

A magnet touched my screen

My son touched my television screen with a magnet in two spots leaving two discolored areas on the screen, purple and green in hue. I read many quick solutions to this problem on the net and none seemed to work completely,so what i did is took the same magnet that touched the screen and held it in my fist, then with TV on i waved my fist all around the screen working from the spots outward to the edges and this worked completely! Hope this helps someone..
