Bunn Coffee Grinder
Problem for Bunn Coffee Grinder

Leaky Bunn ...

By Bomber - usenet poster

" "
I'm now on my second Bunn coffee maker that I use in my home. Like my first
Bunn the gasket on top of the water reservoir has just gone bad and I leak
water all over the counter.

I sent my first Bunn in to the company and they said it couldn't be fixed
and sold me my second Bunn. Now this one is doing the same thing. I know it
can't be more than a .50 cent gasket but they said they don't sell parts for
liability reasons.

Does anyone know of a good "food grade" gasket material that I could just
make my own?

If not than does anyone have a good recommendation for another coffee maker?

Same Problem

-   I did a thorough cleaning of my Bunn coffee machine as it was very slow when perking. After putting it back together, it now leaks all over the counter. What did I do wrong???

Call 1-800-352-2866 for service questions
Bunn sent me a repair kit that solved the problem. Basically a larger
silicone type gasket that covered the crumbling plastic. Easy fix and they
shipped it to me in about three days.

Opened the reservoir, soaked it numerous times in three different solutions
(Mr. Coffee brand at the supermarket works better than KalCaf BTW) over a
week, and more stuff fell out after each soak. Nice and shiny clean when I
was finished. More of a chore than I wanted though.

How did you get that much scum out of the Bunn??? To get those big of pieces
you must have opened up the reservoir and scraped it out???

The same with my 'two' older Bunn machines.
Now the wife (soon to be -ex) gets to take the working one with her to her
new house (along with about half of the other stuff). Never liked coffee
from that Bunn.
Long live Chemex.

Yes it's been good to me and to think I was almost thinking about switching
to either a Braun FlavorSelect KF187 or a Krups Crystal Arome Plus. Both of
these ranked right up there with the Bunn according to some consumer tests
but I can't imagine they'd last as long... has anyone had either one of
these for a while and if so do they last as long???

Just curious now.

You got your money out of that piece of equipment-maybe good for
another 14-way to go.

Just thought I'd add a quick follow up. According to the date on the bottom
of my Bunn it's 14 years old! I was thinking it was half that age or less!
Anyway I called Bunn and they're sending out the repair kit free of
charge... how can you beat that service on this old of a unit!

Thanks for all the help!

That might be the answer but you should know that before it leaked my "bunn"
was the envy of the neighborhood. :)

I just took mine apart and this is exactly my problem. The plastic did
crumble. I'll give them a call and see if they'll send me the repair kit.

Sounds like something I'll try. I haven't had this one apart yet but I
remember on my last one it did look like a gasket. I'll see if I can find
some RTV. Thanks for the information.

How long did you have these thing before the leaks started-mine is
about 7 YO and no leaks. Did take it apart and think it might be
tough to get the thing back together again without causing major
leaks. Clear silicone would probably work-course it might cause
breast enlargement:)
