I have an LG WM2487H*M washing machine that is about 15 months old. The washer and laundry room smell like mildew all the time. I have used the sanitize setting several times, I clean the door and rubber around the door after each use, and I use HE detergent exclusively. The annual checkup was performed in June, and the technician told my husband (i was not at home) to tell me to make sure I clean around the rubber, which I always do. I also leave the door open overnight after use to dry the tub. I have also stuffed a cloth into the drain holes to keep the "backup" smell from coming in through there. Nothing works. What is going on? I absolutely LOVE this machine and I paid a large chunk of money for it, but I certainly don't appreciate the SMELL! HELP!!!!!

I have owned my LG WM2487H for 2 years. Progressively over the 2 years the foul odor has gotten worse. I leave the door open except when washing clothes. I have to wonder how clean my clothes are getting with the stinch being ever present...even right after a clean load. I have tried the Washer Magic stuff. I have cycled straight bleach thru the machine. I utilize the tub clean feature and the sanitize cycle. Nothing will get rid of the odor.

It is ok to cry really. Several things happen with a front loader that don't with a top loader. These machines are more water tight but the problem lies with three things. Soap, water and your drain. First start from the drain and insure the gray hose is not constantly touching water as this will cause siphoning and build up in the pump. Two, make sure that you never use more than 1/4 cup soap liquid as this will create a base in the tub for mold and mildew to grow on, yuck! Three, is your water softened or do you have iron water. When looking at your washer you see that little door on the left bottom, did the tech explain what wonderful adventures await in there? I would open this and get familar with the features, behind this door is a large screw lid for the pump clean out and just to the left is a little white or black plug attached to a hose kinda stuck into the facia there. Get a bucket and pull the little hose with plug out enough to drain into a bucket. Some un plug and others you pull out. Once drained remove the large translucent plastic screw and see if you have any stuff in there. This is a place that I found odor to hide and once cleaned will remove half of your smell. Try spraying some peroxide in there as this is a great germ killer and the base behind oxi clean. Next I would get some affresh or washer magic. I prefer washer magic at first because it is mobile and with a rag can be placed everywhere. At this time I would pour half a bottle into the dispenser, some on a rag and wipe the bellows inside and out and then pour the remains into the basket and follow that with a pot of almost boiling water and let it sit for the night. In the morning I would run a normal hot wash to rinse it out.

I getting a funky smell in my laundry room and bathroom, but only when I am doing laundry. I am wondering if it has something to do with the hose. Its be like this for about six months. Thanks

It probally mildew growing inside the wash tub and associated water connnections like the pump housing, drain hoses. Mildew growth is common problem with front load washers. You can try to reduce the occurance of mildew by leaving the door and soap dispenser door open when not in use. Also wipe with door gasket with a rag to dry it.

To kill the mildew in the machine wash an empty load with hot water and vineagar about once a month. Repeat as neccessary. There other products to help reduce mildew such as affresh. Hope this helps you.

Foul smell inn LG Washer

you need to remove the inner wash drum and clean out the outer drum of ALL the soap and softener in the outer drum so it can drain properly, as it has started growing mold/mildew in the outer drum, also while it is out clean the door seal boot and make sure the drain boot hole is clear too that drains to the outer drum so it can all go down the drain, then put it back together and hot wash an empty tub in hot water and bleach

MY newerfront load lg machine smells like mildew leaving clothes

Front load washers are very efficient but can create odors not common in top load machines. I would suggest running a cleaner such as Affresh or Smelly washer through the machine, there are instructions on the containers but basically you run a load without clothes on the hottest settings. This will help eliminate the mildew that gets caught between the tub and basket. A treatment once a month will do wonders!

You can purchase these at Target, Lowes or grocery stores near the laundry soaps.

LG washing machine has AWFUL mildew smell

Don't know if this is the same as your problem, but I had a Kenmore washer, (made by Whirlpool) that did the same thing. It was a high efficiency model without an agitator. I finally found out that this type of washer never drains completely but always has some water left in it. This water is somewhere internal that cannot be seen unless the machine is taken apart. That water goes bad and stinks. Everything smelled like mildew and for some while my husband thought I was was washing clothes and leaving them in until they dried. I ended up having to just buy a new machine and when the stinky washer was taken away, just tilting it caused all this foul water to come out everywhere. Also I found this on the internet http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/lg_washing_machine.html
scroll down and see how other people feel about this machine. I decided that instead of buying the newest, latest, greatest, with all the bells and whistles appliances, from now on I will buy the time tested, plain jane models.

Front loader smells like stale cigarettes during cycle

Make sure that you are using high efficiency (he) detergent. Pour 2 cups of vinegar in the tub and fill the detergent tray with vinegar. Run it on the hottest, longest cycle. You can also use a Front load cleaner such as Afresh, made by Whirpool. I think that Tide makes one too. Vinegar is usually readily available. At the end of washing for the day, leave the door to the washer slightly open so that fresh air can get in and dry it out keeping moldy, milduey smell down. If it mildews, use a rag and bleach water to clean the boot seal. Hope this helps.

Laundry smells like mildew after washing

Front load washers retain water that you cant see or get to. There are cleaners for washing machines available. I clean mine every month with alot of bleach , try pouring a half gallon of bleach in the soap insert on a normal wash cycle and an extra rinse would not hurt no clothes of course.

LG washing machine has AWFUL mildew smell

Same here. We bought ours January 2005. Love the machines and take great care of them, too. Then the smell in the washer which seemed to affect certain clothes, like thick sweat pants and t-shirts (they smelled really "sour"). After doing some searches I found on this site where someone had recommended using a product called Affresh. I figured I might as well try it since my other attempts failed. This really worked for me. I bought it at Home Depot for $7 for a pkg of 3. I used 3 tablets per their directions, as this was my first time using it (afterwards they recommend using only 1 tablet per month). I was totally amazed as the smell was gone. I hope it works for you, too!

LG washing machine has AWFUL mildew smell

Same problem and I was told to only use detergents with "HE" on the front of them for high energy. the soap without HE is too foamy and hence never truly drains out and causes a mildew smell. I also purchased something called "A" Fresh that I run in the washer every 6 weeks to keep the smell out. I got it at an appliance store for about $11.00 for 3 tablets
