RCA CDRW 140 dual deck CD recorder

I am trying to record one song at a time to a music recordable CD. I know I have to use the remote to "program" what songs I want to record in what order. I just want to record one song from one CD and record another song from a different CD and so on. What I try to do is using my remote control, I press CDRW, then PROGRAM, the the number 1, then PROGRAM, then PROGRAM CHECK several times and I have step one (I only want one step at this time) I then press RECORD and the deck dispaly says BUSY, then it says READY with the PAUSE symbol on dispaly. After that I try to hit RECORD, or PAUSE, or PLAY and nothing happens. What am I forgetting to do? I know there is some tricky sequence you have to do but I can't find my user manual and I can't remember the sequence. Thank you, Dale (it dubbs full CDs with no problem.)

I always program ny tracks from the unit itself. With both discs in place, I first select dud time X1. Recording selected track at standard speed, then hitting the stop button on disc B when track is done. This is the only way I can record with any accuracy. It is just as though I am recording a cassette back in the day. It takes more time but works.

Blank Disc in tray B .
Program tacks in any desired sequence
Press the TIME SET / PROGRAM button on recorder or remote..."WAIT" appears then "01" flashes to let you know the unit is ready for the first track.
Enter the first track you want to program using the numbers buttons on the remote .
