Question about SMC Barricade g SMCWBR14T-G Wireless Router (SMCWBR14TG)
This an SMCWBR14-N Wirless Router.
I am unable to configure the router with a AT&T DSL Westell 327W router/modem. The 327W works properly when hard wired to the computers but the wireless sucks.
I have bridged the Westell and conneted the LAN from 327 to WAN connection into the SMC. I have configured it and I see all the netowork (IP, Gateway address) and my computer mac address in the Status window of the SMC. However, when I click the browser either I can't acces any web pages or an AT&T Password window pops up. Tried resetting the password but the AT&T tool fails. I have spoken to SMC & AT&T tech Sppt and both say it's a problem with the other equipment. One of the senior AT&T analyst said that it is a 327W Wireless router. She said that I have to order their regular modem for $75.00 for the router to work and she said she cannot promise it will work. The SMC is set PPOE.
It seems that the router capability of both devices are conflicting with each other so below are the steps that you can try to setup the two devices to work with each other.
i assume that you are using pppoe connection from at&t and you are using a connection manager. if so, with the current setup that you have right, you need to disable the connection manager on your computer (network connection, disable at&t connection) and set the connection of your web browser to "never dial a connection". check now if you will be able to connect to the internet instead of being prompted for a password. if your problem is still the same, try the steps below.
configure the westell 327w the way it was before (when it works properly when hard wired to the computers but the wireless sucks) but disable the wireless capability. change now the ip address of the smc router from it's default (192.168.2.1) to an ip address which is on the same segment as the ip address of the westell 327w (ex. 192.168.1.2 if your westell 327w is using the ip address 192.168.1.1). disable the dhcp of the smc router (note:make sure that you have configured all the settings that you want to configure with the smc (i.e. wireless settings, port forwarding, etc). then connect the westell to one of the LAN ports of the smc (note: with this setup, the wan port of the smc should not be used) and power cycle everything and check if this setup will work.
hope this'll help you and just ask me if you have other concern.
