Thanks for the suggestions. The Z8240 has two lights on the main body.
Normally when it works as it should, the blue light comes on and it acts as power on indicator. It has Power on controls on the handle.
The problem with mine is that as it was working, it started to choke, and I turned it off as fast as I could - there was some electrical smell as well.
I cleaned the filters on it, and the motor attempted to start again and it again started to choke and shut down - felt like it was protecting itself from overheating.
I tried to find some circuit description of it - but no luck - I think it has 3 circuit boards in it - or so I was told by the vac tech that repaired it last time.
Be sure to check the hose , wands and power brush for obstructions as well.
If there's a burning hair electrical odor then it might be toast.
i despise bagless vac's as they always wind up being more maintenance and expence then bagged vac's.

Hi There, Alec From VacuumSpot here. I work as a vacuum technician and unfortunately I am the bearer of bad news the handle is not really repairable. Even in warranty Electrolux allowed us to simply swap the hose over in favour of any repair. If you need to buy a new Z8240 hose the part number is 1131404541.
make sure electrical out let has 120 volts, try another out let if all is good.electrical cord at the plug in prongs could have a short in cord.the control switch could be faulty and make sure vacuum bag and cannister in place tight.i remember some of 1960s and late model electrolux vacuum cleaner if the vacuum bag container door wont closed all the way vacuum cleaner wont turn on.

should solve the problem. Before you start it, please make sure the machine is
unplugged. First, remove the
airway inspection. It’s located at the side of your cleaner. Next, hold the
main body of the cleaner halfway between the floor and upright position. Then,
place two fingers in the square hole left by the airway inspection (you should
be able to see a round hole at the base) then pull that plastic piece sharply
upwards. You should hear a click as you do so. Your machine
should now stand upright and you may also notice an improvement in the suction,
