Its the ics getting heated on the board.

I encountered the same problem with my HLR5678W last night. I was playing a Wii game and suddenly, the left half screen froze and the right half was displaying the game progress alright.

I turned the TV off and turned it on again. Then, I could see garbled signal on the left half and proper display on the right (be it DVD/PS3/Wii/Satellite inputs). I turned the TV off again, took off the DLP lamp and took a look. Everything was normal. Then, I put it back in and the screen was OK. But the problem came up again in an hour when I was watching a movie. I shut it down, It was OK this morning. I am not sure either whats going on. Maybe some heat issue somewhere?

adjust the Red/Blue/Green screen voltages. To get to the adjustment board, take the front speaker grill off (two screws at the bottom left and right) and set it aside. No need to disconnect any wires. Then remove the plywood board with 4 screws that exposes the screen/focus adjustments. The top 3 adjustments are for focus, and you need not mess with these. The bottom 3 adjustments are for Red/Blue/Green screen voltage rough adjustments. if the screen showed red lines, so you had to turn the bottom right adjustment with a philips head screwdriver just slightly until the red gun retrace lines where no longer visible.

am an electrical engineer by trade, but you do not need any technical background at all to do this adjustment. If you can operate a screwdriver, you can save yourself the hassle of a service call and save a few bucks. Make sure no kids are around when making the adjustment and make sure the screwdriver touches nothing else in the TV because the set has to be powered on to make the adjustment. Since the screen/focus block is right up front, danger of shock is extremely minute.

The adjustments have white marker paint on them, so if you adjust the wrong gun, it is a simple matter to return it to it's original adjustment by realigning the paint marks.

Hello, it sounds like the "light engine" has gone bad. It's an expensive repair and you might consider replacing it rather than repairing it. Pictures of the problem would help to confirm my diagnosis.....tks

I have a samsung 46 inch 3d television model number ltf-460hq01 the left side of the screen has pixel distortion which causes the exact left half of screen to have the traced or 3d ghostly, blur ar

Do not thump too often or too hard----you can destroy the screen unit which means you would be shopping for a new set.

Issue is either a loose connection from a board or can be INSIDE the screen unit where it cannot be got at.

Might be a good idea to have a shop look at the set before the screen gets destroyed.

Coulor distortion at the top left of the screen

Hello jordan ashe,

This is an indication that the green CRT is having a convergence problem. This might be caused by the convergence amplifier or by the CRT. Does the rest of the picture look OK? and in addition can you supply a picture of your TV so as I can see what you are seeing and develop a proper diagnosis?

Thank you,

Green semi-circle of lines on Samsung 55" HDTV (projection)

I believe i have the same problem myself. When my TV is on any of the Component Inputs without my DVD player turned on i usually get the normal green screen. But now that is a dip in the green at the top of the screen from the top left to almost the top right and black pushing down on the dip. Almost like a green curtain was sagging at the top and you can see the black behind it. It does this on every input and distorts every picture you see. The distorted picture has all the green slightly off from where the rest of the picture is and where the dip at the top of the screen is there is somtimes purple instead of black.

I know the basics of how the picture gets onto the screen and its my guess that the Green "gun" for lack of a better term and somhow come loose, or been missaligned to a great extent. I would love to find an answer to this problem, and anyones best guess as to how much a repair man will charge, just so i know the ballpark.

In the customer menu page thru it until you come to a page that has an item called convergence. move the cursor down to hightlight this and press enter. The next screen will have an Auto on the top line and a Manual of the second line. Hightlight the auto and press enter. The TV will attempt an automatic convergence alignment. BE WARNED>>>It will either correct it or make it worst. If it gets worst then the TV's convergence circuit has aged and is starting to fail. If it corrected it it's the same aging but not as bad, YET. If there is no change or it got worst then you will need to have the TV serviced preferbly by an authorized JVC service center because they have access to the service literature and buttetins.
