Question about GoVideo Go Video DVD/VCR Combo

Go Video Dual Deck VR2940

All of a sudden, the DVD tray will not close. Each time I click the remote or use the manual button to open/close the tray, the tray opens, closes and then opens again. When I finally DID get it to stay closed, the disc will not play, and the machine freezes.

I've tried turning off the machine. I've tried disconnecting it and reconnecting.
Still, the same dilemma.

Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Dear thenmoneypitt,

I thank you SO very much for taking the time out to help a total stranger. Honestly, I thought it a longshot that anyone would reply, and am truly touched by your extending your knowledge, energy and time.

I'm a little hesitant to open up the unit, as I'm not well versed with things of this nature, but I suppose there's a first for everything, so I will give it a go! If I don't find anything, I think I may just cash in my chips and look for another unit, as repairs cost almost as much as new machines do these days, so it might not be worth the investment.

Again, my sincere thanks for all of your kindness and expertise. May it come back to you, when you need it, - tenfold.

    Sincerely,
    bettysgaragesale

Hello bettysgarage. A common malfunction in DVD players. The mechanics has a bad part or something is jamed in the rails, arms, lifts, ect. I suggest you unpluge the AC, remove the case screws(note witch screw went were), and look internaly for something in the mechanics, thread, paper, loose paper clip, ect. Carefully postion unit and reconnect the AC so you may see the action of the disk tray in motion. Please be careful you have AC power and can get SHOCKED if you touch the circuit or wire terminals. When no object is found you have a bad DVD that would require a local service technican to repair unless you are technically inclined to vinture futher. Good Luck.

Thank you for the reply. Good Luck.

I sorry. I need to mention when you are inside with AC unpluged, reseat or wiggle the interconnecting cable or wireing in the unit to all the sockets or sensors. A loose connection may be a problem. Also check for obstruction in the laser switch sensors, clean with a Q-tip.

My husband always operated the DVD player. He has died and now I'm at a loss what to do. I rented a DVD at the video store. I tried to put it into the tray on the DVD player. I had to pull the tray...

Hi, Very sorry for your loss. As always the first step is to make sure the player is connected to the wall outlet and turned on. To put a disk in the DVD you should push the "Eject" button to open and close the tray it looks like a home(a triangle over a dash) on the front side of the box down left corner of the tray. You have the same button on the remote marked "Eject". Push either once, put the disk with the shiny side down on the tray and push the Eject button again to feed the tray back into the player. Usually the disk starts automatically and you will see a menu on the TV with alternatives like "Play the movie", "Setup", "Scenes",... you may highlight the "Play the movie" alternative, using "Up", "Down", "Left" and "Right" and then press the "OK" button. Or just push the "Play" button either on the box or the remote control. If you click "Here "you can download the manual in PDF form. To open it in your pc you'll need "Adobe Acrobat Reader" (or any other PDF reader) installed.
I will gladly answer your questions Best Regards Bruce

Unknown disk type

Press 'Disc Menu' and wait for 'no disc' to appear on the screen. Eject the tray by pressing the 'open / close' button on front of the recorder. Enter the following numbers very slowly on the remote control ' 0086000 ' Press ' OK ' button on your remote control. Close the tray by pressing ' open / close ' button on the front of the recorder. You can check this has worked by pressing ' 0009 OK ' on your remote after the tray has closed. A display will pop up on screen showing the Region as 0. This means you should be able to play discs from all Regions. If this doesn't work the first time! try again! Hope this helps!!

Tne dvd door will not open

These are instructions to open door if DVD is jammed or the DVD recorder wont open.

Unscrew the 7 cover screws and the 2 foot screws. Remover player cover.

Pry the front control cover off from the top of the player and not the bottom with a thin screw driver paying attention not to crack or break the tabs. Just lift them enough to clear the hooks. Then lower the cover withut removing it so you can gain access to the DVD front internal bezel.

On the left side of the DVD recorder there is a notch with a lever in it. gently push on it as this is the release for the DVD door. Remove DVD from tray and close.

Re-install all covers and screws. Machine should work after this.

DVD tray will not open

When a disk is stuck inside the player , try following the procedure below:

Unplug power cord.
Plug back power.
Turn on the unit and press repeatedly the eject button at the same time. If you successeed in ejecting the disk before the player starts reading TOC(disk initial track), then the disk will eject.
If that does not work, then there is an internal fault, in that case the unit must be taken apart to remove the disk.
