Hi Leslie,

XP Pro doesn't have its own software for the sound card in your Acer.
This software is available from Acer's website.
Click on the following link to download the sound card software for your PC.:http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Audio/AUDIO_Realtek_5.10.0.5265_Xpx86.zip?acerid=633645769400615248&Step1=Desktop&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%20T180&OS=X02&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6
Take note that this is a zip file which means you may need an application called winzip to open the sound card file. Winzip is available by clicking http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm if you cant access your downloaded sound card software.

Once you have installed the sound card software you will have your sound card installed and should hear sounds from a set of multimedia speakers.
Don't hesitate to message me if you need any further assistance.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

SOURCE: Acer Aspire T180 Missing Drivers

I had the same problem when I "upgraded" a T180 from Vista to XP. You have to ensure that the drivers match the audio chip. There are two types - check out the audio chip with PCwizard.
Downloads are availabe from the Acer site.

Acer aspire 5310 Wireless LAN indicator light on windows 7

That sort of comes with a OS upgrade, in upgrades from XP to Win 7, I'm supprised that's the only thing that is a issue. I upgraded a old gateway (2005) from XP to Win 7 Pro N 64bit. and had some hardware issues to deal with. Consider yourself lucky. You can get use to it or search endlessly for a fix. Try the Acer forums, you may run across the issue.

Try installing the latest audio driver.
Download the drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure youselect the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers youthat require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on yourlaptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -

Ethernet-controller drivers for Acer Aspire 5520-5908 XP

Find a USB memory-stick, and find a computer with Internet access and an available USB port.
Put the memory-stick into the USB slot.
Browse to ACER's web-site, and select your specific model of the Aspire line, and select Windows XP, and select network-controllers, and download the device-drivers, and copy them onto the memory-stick,.
Walk the memory-stick to your Acer, and install the device-driver.

Hi,
The first models of acer aspire one pro P531h-0Bk is not able to get more than 1gb RAM, but the revised model is able to get this. So you MUST consult with your IT dealer.

How to Upgrade to max RAM

The Acer Aspire One can be upgraded to a total RAM of 2Gigs. This will allow for you to upgrade to Windows XP Pro and also to Microsoft Office 2003 as there is no version of Office Professional. If you would like more specifics on your particular model, please look here. http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/acer-aspire-one-10-inch.aspx?page=3

Upgrading RAM is a fairly simple process. As this is a fairly compact laptop in design, you will have to upgrade to a new 2Gig RAM module and basically discard (or sell) the one you end up removing. In order to find out the type of RAM you'll need, remove the cover as show in the picture and the info for the existing RAM should be written on it.

Good luck!

INTEL P4 3.0 GHZ

You need to identify the sound card (the make and model) that is installed on your computer. Then you need to go to that manufacturer's WEB site to the support/download page and download the XP driver for your model sound card.
If can also try www.driverguide.com to search and download drivers.

Acer Aspire T180 Missing Drivers

My problem was with the T180 was the VGA support under XP. Reinstalling the Chipset drivers fixed that - audio and ethernet still broken but I'm using a wireless adapter for networking and I have separate sound care for sound - but anyway the link is:

http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads_gd.html

I downloaded and installed chipset for XP 32 and it worked fine - presume the same is true for the Home Edition drivers.

I did try the pdf index suggested by a previous poster but I found all the links to XP drivers were broken.
