Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies
There is no paralel port on my new laptop so to connect bjc 50 i must use usb port. once connected via usb-paralel adaptor, printer is recognised but any file sent to print hangs - no printing! OS is Vista, but same problem is with XP also, so looks like driver don't create the problem - problems seems to be with paralel connection via usb virtual port?!
Purchase a PCMCIA parallel port adapter. the USB to parallel adapters are a pain to set up and are flakey at best. The PC card adapter provides a native parallel port to laptops without one, and works perfectly in ALL cases, even with the scanner cartridge. In Vista, the printer may then be manually installed from its list of printers, and set to use the new LPT port.

You are correct on your deduction.
It is the USB to Parrallel adpter. They are not reliable in the XP/Vista enviroment. I have run into this several times.
