Question about LG WM1812C Front Load Washer

Washer drum off balance

I have an LG WM1812CW front loader washing machine purchased brand new January 2005. Last week my drain pump went out on my machine (of course, no extended warranty). Local repairmen came out and did the repair, and I mentioned my machine seemed to be out of balance when washing clothes, especially in the spin cycle. We have our machine on a pad to cut down on the vibration as the washer and dryer are both on the second floor, and they said I do not need to have it balanced because it is on the pad (which makes no sense at all). Of course it needs to balanced so we ended up balancing it ourselves, but now have noticed problems when the clothes are in the final spin cycle. I have to press down on the machine as it vibrates so much. This is a new trick since they "fixed" my drain pump and was not doing it before. Any advice? Thanks much.

The original repair team who replaced the drain pump specifically mentioned there was no problem with the drum.

Repair team specifically stated there was nothing wrong with the drum. I am hoping this is a simple fix I can do. Any ideas? Thanks much!

Can I balance the drum myself or do I have to call for service again? If I can, how?

Can the drum be off balance? If so, how to balance it? Thanks much.

There is no powder or residue found. Thank you very much for your input. I appreciate your time.

I have also read these previous postings for help before posting my problem to no avail. Thanks, though.

There is an alignment track that the drum rides on it uses little wheels that ride on this track to keep the drum in the right place. either the bracket holding thos wheels to the back of the drum are loose or the wheels themselves are worn. these should be checked for servicabilty or replaced the problem is not the drum itself.. please rate.

This is a common problem. You need to lubricant the washer of the pump as well as the spin machiene. As far as pad is concerned, automatic maciene do not require any such thing.

Thanks.

Hi,

May I offer a remote possibility? Pls check the inside of the unit from the rear. Visually inspect for presence of rusty or grayish spray or powder particular at the bottom/flooring, sides and below the rear of the drum itself. Should this be the case, then most likely the bearing at the rear of the drum is damaged which could lead to unbalanced condition and therefor vibrations. In most instances, bearing failure could be caused by fault in the seal. The seal prevents water reaching/damaging the bearings. It would be more economical to replace the seal/bearing rather than an entire drum assembly, but it would require more work and a press shop to fit in the new bearing.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

it may also happen due to this

    please check

More than likely it did not get reinstalled right after the move. All four of the leveling legs must be firmly touching the floor. If one is even the thickness of a piece of paper off the floor it will start to rock during spin and the problem just amplifies itself. Make sure it's perfectly level and that all the feet are firmly on the floor.

1 of the fixya expert suggested this as per his personal experience see if this helps you because he was also facing the same problem as yours so here is what he did

We had the same issue with our Whirlpool and LG front loader washer. Here is how we had to solve the problem.

The floor was vibrating so much did the spin cycle, so I call a freind of mine over that is contruction engineer. He suggesting putting 2x10 blocks between the floor joist in a ten foot section. Retested, this reduced the the amount a vibration, then we screwed a sheet of ¾" Plywood on the bottom side of the joist. This cured the vibration. If you read the installation instructions, they only talk about installing the front loader washers on solid surfaces (concrete) to avoid vibration.

please rate the solution if it helps.
and do comment if need further help.we will help you.
    thanks.

You may to mention the brand and model of machine. Mine is an Lg, I just shut off machine. Turn it back on and then press the no spin and start, this drains the washer. You may have too much clothes in the machine.

BRand new installation of 1 year old machine we

hi,

I am a novice at front loaders but it sounds like it needs new suspension parts, namely springs, sounds like the machine had a hard life before you got it. since its used anyways it cant hurt to take the back off and see and study how it works and how the drums suspension works. you can try to find the springs at an appliance store. Im not sure if you can get springs directly from LG. LG's are a pretty good name brand, probably worth fixing..
good luck!

WF218ANB noise like a bag of rocks being shaken.

This is a direct result of Samsung's Vibration Reduction Technology(VRT). There is a hoop at the front and the back of the drum holding 18 ball berrings in each hoop (36 in total). These balls use centrifugal force and automatically move to the opposite side of where the load is unbalanced and balances it out. It is only in the washing machines, not dryers.

My LG front loader is washer leaking water.

Could be the bladder from the drum to the door of the door seal. It could also be the drain pump hose.

LG WM1812CW washer smell

First, clean out the filter behind the access door on the lower left front of the machine. Residue left in the filter can contribute to odor issues. Second, buy a package of AhFresh or Whilaway and run a cycle with that, hot water, longest cycle. (unfortunately you do not have the sanitary cycle or the tub clean cycle on your model) Third, and most importantly, USE LESS DETERGENT. Top load washers use up to 45 gallons of water per cycle. Your machine uses 12. Use one tablespoon of HE detergent and one teaspoon of fabric softener (if you use softener) per cycle. My personal LG washer is now over 5 years old, and have only had an odor issue one time. I leave the door closed after I wash. (the tub is vented) Never have had any mold or mildew issues with my washer. Was doing several loads per day when I had 7 at home, now only doing 3 loads a week with all the kids, their spouses, and grandkid gone. Still no odor problems. Great machines if used properly. Note: the odor / mold / mildew issues are basically the same with any front load machine, regardless of brand, and most can be solved following the above advise. Good luck.
